A little early but with no midweek games I'll start with an article from Hattiesburg American saying Stevie Powers will not pitch this weekend and possibly next weekend as well. Berry says it's forearm tendinitis.

Tech is playing AT Grambling tonight. Grambling has an RPI of 278. That is brutal.

Hopefully they exhaust some pitching.

Granted it will be a game/situation by situation but hoping we start Strickland on Sunday and let him go 4 or so innings then bring in JC for one time through their lineup and from there go with Jackson/Driver/Bradford

Hey Coach, does Cody Carroll figure in your plans?

La Tech website writeup:
http://www.latechsports.com/sports/m-bas...18aaa.html

This season, the Bulldogs have already amassed 16 road wins – the most of any Tech baseball team since the 1989 squad finished the year at 16-14 on the road.

This weekend’s matchup will feature two of the most successful pitching staffs not only in the league, but in all of college baseball. Tech’s team ERA of 3.02 continues to rank in the top 10 among national leaders (ninth), while continuing to set the standard for all 12 C-USA teams. The Golden Eagles rank second in the league in team ERA, posting a figure of 3.40, which is good for 27th nationally.

Southern Miss Friday night starter Nick Sandlin (7-0, 0.88 ERA, 72.0 IP 106 K, 10 BB) ranks second among national leaders with a 0.88 ERA.

Southern Miss leads the league in hitting (.298 team AVG), propelled by Luke Reynold’s league-best .380 batting average.

Tech’s offense has been surging in league play, as it leads the league with a .301 batting average in conference games. Tech has the most hits (258), doubles (57), total bases (397) and hit by pitch (38) among all teams in league play.

The Bulldogs have also continued to be deadly on the basepaths, swiping a league-best 36 bags in conference action. Tech leftfielder Mason Mallard had maintained his unprecedented run in stealing bases – swiping three more bags this past weekend. Mallard is now 25-for-25 in stealing bases this year, and continues to lead all of college baseball with the most stolen bases without being caught. His figure of 25 now leads all C-USA and is tied for 18thmost among all national leaders.

Leadoff man Hunter Wells has settled into his newfound first base role, and continues to be a productive force at the top of the Tech lineup. The versatile switch hitter leads the team with a .340 overall batting average and a .381 mark in league play. His 73 base hits are the most by any one player in C-USA and are 19th most nationally.

I suspect it is game by game.

Strickland would be my first choice but if we are in a tight game on Friday and need the bullpen, I might go on and throw him then and go with Jackson on Sunday. With Tech also starting TBA, I don’t think we need THAT much from a starter.

Hopefully no more Wright or Keys starting.

RE: Baseball host La Tech
Leal is their best pitcher by far (2.21 ERA/0.87 with decent strikeout numbers and only a few walks). Started midweek for most of the year but they moved him to the weekend against MTSU. Didn't do too well. I'd guess there's a decent chance we see him on Sunday.

Miller is their ace/Friday night guy. He started off really hot but has cooled off here lately.

Logan Robbins (Mason's brother) will go for them on Saturday. Lefty with a low K/9 rate and I feel like we don't too well against those kind of pitchers. Looks like they have quite a few lefties on their staff that have logged significant innings for them (Leal, Robbins, Bailey, Griffen).

Backend they have Braxton Smith and Kent Hasler. Hasler was their Friday guy for a little while last year but they eventually swapped him and Nate Harris (their stopper turned ace). Smith has the better K numbers but his H/9 number is higher than Hasler's. We'll probably see both at some point this weekend.

Th streak is over.

Sandlin gives up a single, walks one, hits one, then walks a run in.

Gets a big K to end it.

May be time to go to the pen.

What a hell of a stretch for Sandlin over the last few weeks. Unbelievable.
