We may have really lucked into a really good one here. He was injured before his senior year and his head coach told him he shouldn't play. He did it anyway and his coach said it really hurt his recruiting. We stayed on him though. His coach said he has all the skills to be a top player in any conference. Let's hope he is healed up to play early. Doc has his detractors but they can't say he has not brought in a top notch recruiting class. He has four outstanding freshmen signed.

Different player and if discussed I missed it but UTEP freshman Tirus Smith (6'9") from Richton/Petal is transferring to Jones JC. After getting a year in JuCo maybe he'll give us a look should things work out for him and us.

Whether we like Doc or not, the reality is that he's recruited pretty darn well this year, despite all of the problems we inherently have.

I'm not sure how long we'll keep Doc or how long he'll stay if he finds success, but we need to find a way to fix that Coliseum right now. Whoever the next coach is should not have that as a recruiting burden to deal with. Talk with Coke or some other big company. Promise them the naming rights for X number of years (whatever is standard) and that they'll also be the only brand we'll use on campus/at athletic events. Just do something because we're forty years late on doing anything.

1- Mississippi public institutions can’t currently sell naming rights on facilities
2- Coke already has exclusive beverage rights on campus.

1. Well that's probably the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

2. It was an example.

I guess you can name it after somebody but can’t take money for it.

So the volleyball complex or whatever it's going to be called that Favre gave money towards won't be the Favre Center?

RE: O Can-a-da!
Naming a building for a benefactor and selling the naming rights for a building to a commercial venture are two different things. Public institutions in MS can’t currently sell naming rights for a building. But they can name a building for a benefactor.

Scianna Hall can exist, but Coca-Cola Coliseum can’t. Ole Miss would love to sell the rights to their new basketball pavilion. State would quickly sell rights to the new Dudy-Noble. But they can’t.

Is there good reasoning behind it? Besides not wanting PornHub Pavilion?

RE: O Can-a-da!
From today's hattiesburg american article Doc says:

Sadler said Josh Conley, who played sparingly the past two seasons for the Golden Eagles, is no longer part of the team. He added the roster is still one scholarship player over the limit for the 2018-19 season, but he expects to have it ironed out by the summer.

Doc is a pretty good coach. Not a sexy pick by any means, nothing like that guy we tried to get from SFA or Tyndall (look how that turned out). He is recruiting well with close to the worst facilities in the conference, maybe even the worst period.

We need to do whatever we can to get the coliseum going. I'd like to see a smaller 5k to 6k pavilion built for multiple purposes and go from there but we don't have the money for sand for the beach volley ball courts much less a new building.

If only we could afford the gas for a trip there and back, that may be a solution.
