I remember a UConn game at FedEx Forum where Geron Johnson was allowed to pick up his 3rd foul early in the first half and if memory serves Michael Dixon had four. I disagree with recent popular notion that you leave players in with 2 fouls. If Joey Dorsey has 2 fouls, you take him out. If Shaq Goodwin has 2 fouls, you take him out. We could not defend Shabazz Napier the entire 2nd half of that UConn game. Geron Johnson was too valuable to be lost for 1/2 the game; they couldn’t stop Austin Nichols; if Geron had been able to play at all, we had a shot to win that game.

There shouldn't be a steadfast rule that applies for everyone. If your first and second string power forward both have 2 fouls in the first half and there is a huge dropoff after those 2. You probably should play one of them in the first half.

Honestly, we couldnt guard him in the first half either. He was a huge reason those guys were in foul trouble. We couldnt stay in front of him.

Purely the fault of Pastner who had our guards defending 40' from the basket. UConn's guards would get a running start, would either beat their man, or have a big set a screen, followed by one of our bigs following them out of the paint, which then gave their guard an open shot/layup or an easy dish to one of their bigs.

All season, all Pastner had to do was have our guards stand at the 3 point line and stay in front of their man, and we would have been fine. IMO, the most frustrating seasons I can remember were 2014 and 1996. Both of those teams should have gone deep into the tournament.

Sheesh. Forget the fundamentals. The 2014 team never seemed to be mentally strong—-starting at the top.

Juice boxes, flash cards, gratitude bracelets might possibly work in intramural grade school volleyball.

I always wondered if our players had a choice of flavors.

We just didn't make shots. Besides they had a hof coach, good players and ran good stuff. Winning is hard.

I always hated how he would have Tarik guarding a guard 40 feet from the basket. He already had problems with fouls but for some reason he is out past the 3pt line guarding a guard.

o yeah. I remember those Tarik sightings.

But I thought Pastner was trying some shock strategy to throw the other team off-balance.
