Sister Jean set an all time record for bobblehead sales. That’s why she was in the most prominent spot when the NCAA tweeted its Mt Rushmore for March Madness.

RE: LUC donations up 660 percent
I think it would be a more interesting headline if the donations were up 666% percent. :D

Very happy for Loyola. They have a great administration and an outstanding basketball coach that genuinely loves his current position and is eager to grow and develop the program. Moser won't be there forever, obviously, but what he is doing in terms of recruiting area talent and building the next top-program in the MVC is a wonderful story.

With respect to Loyola, yes. With respect to the MVC, not so much. We should no longer be surprised when a team from this league is competitive with the best. And not just in hoops.

Over the past six years, the FCS Missouri Valley Football Conference has a higher average Sagarin strength rating than the MAC, CUSA and Sunbelt. They are slightly behind the MWC. Not bad on 63 scholarships.

Quote:Gonzaga's run in the NCAA tournament, beginning as Cinderellas in 1999 and now being perennial contenders, has done wonders for the small school. Between 1999 and 2017, the school saw its endowment grow from $67 million to $213 million (up 218 percent)

Gonzaga's endowment growing by $140 million over 20 years isn't that impressive when some of the MAC schools in that time frame have tacked on $300-$400 endowment growth without highly visible athletics.

Good for them. No Espin hype train and they are still doing extremely well....
Did Loyala Chicago play any games on ESPN last year?...over the last 10 years?

Considering that the Dow gained 150% during that time, I would expect most endowments to show similar growth.

ESPN2/ESPNU this past year. I thought their game against Florida was, but apparently it was on the SEC Network.

Loyola Chicago-Illinois State was the 6th highest rated conference title game. All their exposure came from CBS.

Over the last several years they’ve played 1 single game on ESPNU. For those who say it’s impossible to make it without ESPN, here at least 1 school who’s doing it.

They did it by doing good in their first tournament (NIT or better) appearance in over three decades. That has nothing to do with ESPN exposure. Quinnipiac would be doing just the same had they randomly made the Final Four.

It was a Great story. Sister Jean....Going to the final 4 isn’t enough in the ESPN era. Winning is not enough in the ESPN era. See TCU in 2009 and 2010 (Fiesta and Rose Bowls, wins at Clemson vs Whiskey etc). Great team, but ESPN refused to give them a puff piece or even show their highlights. TCU played all their games on another network, so ESPN simply refused to acknowledge them. The media is ridiculously powerful, and ESPN is a ridiculously powerful thing in sports media with its near monopoly.

See the “Puff Graham” story. In the 40’s, Billy Graham was struggling as a tent revival preacher until for some unknown reason William Randolph Hearst said via telegraph those 2 magic words to his newspaper.....”Puff Graham” The rest is history.
