RE: JMU Alumni Basketball Team (The Founding Fathers) in The Basketball Tournament
We've got some great voting momentum going now. We just passed ODU in the standings. Let's keep it going, though. We also have a huge giveaway going on on the JMU Nation Facebook page for those that vote and have voted. We're giving away a team-issued reversible practice jersey and an official 2013 CAA Basketball Championship hat signed by Matt Brady. Many many thanks to those that have voted and/or supported us in other capacities so far!

Just voted.

Currently in 13th place in the south and need to get to top by Friday to be assured of a spot.

How does the at large work in reach region?

Voted. Sign up was easy, except the "pick out the road signs" part to prove I wasn't a robot. That part went on & on. By far, the longest challenge of any site I've been on.

How does the at large work in reach region?

As you've said, Top 9 vote getters in each region get automatic bids so we are shooting for that. There is no science to the four at-larges per region but the consideration includes many factors such as but not limited to vote total, actively publicizing The Basketball Tournament, storylines with the team, quality of players and more.

So the more votes we get and the more we get people sharing about our team on social media the better our at-large chances. We recently got a message this week that publicizing TBT throughout the process will heavily weigh in to at-large decisions.

Thanks for your vote. Keep them coming. We had a great voting day yesterday but have no time to let up because the team behind us is gaining ground on us. Ask your spouses, friends, cousins, neighbors, coworkers to support The Founding Fathers and we have a great shot to get in.

Thank you, bobbyjmu. We're only 6 away from 11th in the standings and 20 away from 10th place. Keep showing out, Dukes fans. Y'all are doing great. We REALLY appreciate all y'all have done so far. Voting ends at noon tomorrow (Friday, 6/1)

RE: JMU Alumni Basketball Team (The Founding Fathers) in The Basketball Tournament
As you have probably already seen, we unfortunately did not get in.

The message to you all we posted on our Twitter:

Fans of The Founding Fathers:
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your commitment and support over these last two months. All the excitement and engagement from you all made this fun for us regardless of the outcome. We’re sorry we couldn’t get in for you all as we bleed as much purple as you all do and know how fun and supportive our fans would have been in Richmond. We are just as frustrated, confused and sad as you all. To be transparent with everyone, and after a conversation with The Basketball Tournament, we were the first team out and it came down to national brand recognition versus regional recognition. We will learn and get better from this but if there’s one thing we know is that JMU Nation’s light will not be diminished. See you at Bridgeforth in the fall!

Dukes ‘til we die,
Joe, Kevin, Sean, Josh, Camden

The 4 at large spots went to:

Memphis- 940 votes
ODU- 703 votes
UMBC- 512 votes
Kansas St. - 215 votes

We had 879 votes. Go figure...

THE BUTTERFLIES? Gotta be just because they want the ODU/VCU rivalry because that brand = trash.

Sucks that you guys wasted time on this. If the goal is to reward teams who build up support and help to promote the tournament, then I think the Founding Fathers deserved it. (Particularly if you consider the ground swell of support over the past few years.)

I'll be happy to vote again next year but totally understand if the founders of the Founding Fathers don't go for it again.

Absolute trash. There's no way a team with a little over 200 votes should get in over a team with over 800. I voted and it seems like the system is completely pointless if they're going to let teams in that don't deserve to be in. Founding Fathers deserve to be in. They followed the rules, got enough votes to get in and got completely snubbed.

Exactly....the CapitalOne Mascot Challenge Fix/BS is the very first thing that popped into my mind when I read the results.

But they didn't get enough votes. The rules are clear enough - if you have enough votes for top 9, you're in. After that it's a combination of votes and intangibles.
