But CUSA wouldn’t take them or not the Belt.
The A SUn will be a home for them as they would transform that conference into something much greater than it is now. The Florida schools need a football moveup option.
Stony Brook is an AAU FCS that wants to be higher. UCDavis is a similar west coast school that has much higher aspirations. Those two will move and take their friends with them.
A Stony Brook move to the A Sun is not far fetched. NJIT would backfill the America East. Instantly, other research CAA fb teams would want to move over, creating a different much more academic conference.
UCDavis would spark a major change in the WAC too.
JMU and Delaware didn't follow ODU to FBS, even after all three ADs spoke about it. Why would Stony Brook be the pied piper? And if JMU is saying no to an established FBS conference in the Sun Belt, why would they be willing to abandon the CAA for the ASun? Even if Stony Brook made that plunge, JMU and Delaware are way too risk-adverse to follow, certainly not to an ad hoc ASun.
Delaware and JMU are too aware of their research and academic status to move into a conference that isn’t at their level. Stony Brook doesn’t have a choice - it has to move into a lower level conference than AE if it wants FBS. Stony Brook used to be the in the Big South for football- which is almost preposterous for a AAU school. The A Sun is well above the Big South for research and academics. When Stony Brook goes, JMU and Delaware will follow.
Even if that IS true, the CAA is well above both. Even if Stony Brook and Albany left, I don't see JMU and Delaware following.
Plus why was being in the Big South for football preposterous? They joined a few years after moving from Division 2 and after going full scholarship. Where were they supposed to go at that point? By FCS standards they were a new program. They don't get to pick and choose their spot, academics notwithstanding.

RE: Liberty expected to make major conference affiliation announcement on Thursday
I've often found that those who are on the outside looking in tell themselves they aren't a part of the club because they're too good for said club. It's a terrific coping mechanism that's prevalent among the north east. Also, in the FBS and especially in the G5, conferences don't add schools based on academic profiles. If you think athletic conferences are choosing schools based on nothing but having above average academics, I have some bad news for you.

Stony Brook was just using the Big South to climb. They will do the same for the A Sun to get to their destination. Stony Brook is a snow plow for JMU and Delaware to follow. A Florida-Georgia connection is critical for fb, and one that the CAA can not provide.
The CAA relying now on Hofstra, Elon, UNCW, and others for academic standing is rather comical.
