RE: Planet or Plastic
More people are recycling on the planet than ever before. Many communities have volunteer litter pick up events or free dump weeks at the landfill. Prisoners are picking up trash along the roads. Conservation efforts along streams, rivers and lakes are increasingly popular or mandated/regulated. Used tires are shredded for use at playgrounds and public parks. You can go on and on. That doesn't get in the MSM news cycle. No matter what we do, when you have billions populating the earth there is going to be trash. Period. All we can do is try to minimize it. I'd say we've come a long way since the 1970's.

a magnolia lost its life today....

Quote:Cutting down magnolia trees or live oaks or cypress trees is not illegal in MS, but there are regulations in each city that govern which trees can be cut down and when they can be cut down and you need to go to the town clerk's office to get permits since trees of certain sizes and ages are protected by city ordinances and the clerk will have the information.

freakin' whackjobs....

I have no problem paying a couple of pennies more for products that use biodegradable packaging.

Is it safe to eat fruits and Vegetables grown right next to operating trains? Is the vegetation and humans living next to the tracks harmed by this micro environment? This is a serious question. What is the science regarding living next to the tracks? Be you plant or animal.

I like your optimism! Darn thing is, that half full glass is made of plastic.

Here's the challenge: How not to be pissed off by every environmental advocate. I understand it's easy to see "don't pollute" articles and get irritated that some phony is trying to create socialism via environmental activism. But folks, not every pro-environment piece of journalism employs disputable science or hypocritical thought. Have any of you looked at this issue? I skimmed a couple of items and what I saw was pretty reasonable. No shaming, and even a great point: Most of this ocean plastic waste is coming from Asia. I'm not thrilled with CA's mandate to eliminate non-reusable plastic bags, but it's not breaking the bank and if we can avoid a few more of those things blowing around the neighborhood and/or in the water, I'm ok with it. And I'd like to see us figure a way to incentivize Asian countries to recycle more and reduce plastic production.

Does not matter what is in the oceans. We need to clean the atmosphere. Atmospheric scrubbers have GOT to be the priority. We could all turn green but major damage is already done. Recycling, at this point, doesn’t matter. We need atmosphere scrubbers.

No. I will resist these authoritarians at every turn. All you need to understand about environmental advocates is that they want to use the power of government to force other people to do the virtuous things they believe in, while continuing on their hypocritical paths.

A new study finds climate change skeptics are more likely to behave in eco-friendly ways than those who are highly concerned about the issue.

RE: Planet or Plastic
Wait, I thought we went to plastic bags to keep from cutting down as many trees for use in paper bags? More trees results in improved air filtration and absorption of co2. So, plastic is king environmental justice warriors. Hey Mr. Greenpolice! Yeah you. Pick up that gum rapper you just threw down on the ground.

Beat you to it. I cut down all 11 of my trees in my back yard. They were breaking the brick surrounding them. Man, those roots were everywhere and sprouting new growth. Best thing I ever did. No oxygen for me.

RE: Planet or Plastic
Years ago I lived in an apt and wanted to get out to do some "yard work" type stuff and socialize so I occasionally went out with a local group that did some beautifying in mostly run-down urban areas around town, planting trees, landscaping, pulling weeds and privet, etc... It was my way of trying to help give back volunteering some time for folks who had less than I was blessed with, get some exercise, and chat up some of the opposite sex once in a while. Afterwards, we'd go to a local place to eat and talk. I got a few dates out of it.

One thing that perplexed me no end was how frequently I'd be talking with a "concerned environmentalist" who was chain-smoking and tossing his/her butts down to the ground and cruising them with his/her shoes. Not to mention all the carcinogen they were obliviously expelling out into the atmosphere, all the while complaining about "global warming" and emissions contributing to "climate change." The apparent hypocrisy was palpable, and they'd usually vehemently dismiss any concerns about their own personal behavior.... IKEA (plastic crap heaven) had just opened in the area, and most were evangelizing that cesspool while simultaneously excoriating the oil companies that provided jobs, helped power the cars they all drove to these events, not to mention the many plastic-enhanced products they used from pens to chairs to...well, you get the drift.

I'll start considering "global warming" and "climate change" when all libs stop using ANY plastic, stop smoking anything and stop freakin' littering every day, tossing their trash on the street after they hit the bar district on their way to their mostly plastic-containing and non-renewable built homes. And IKEA sukcs.
