RE: Conference FB Semifinals
Although I will concede this format would have been handy for the Big Ten the last 3 years to help settle arguments of who should have represented the conference in the playoffs

2015 seeding
1. Iowa 8-0
2. MSU 7-1
3. OSU 7-1
4. MICH 6-2
(5) NW 6-2
(6) Wisc 6-2

2016
1. PSU 8-1
2. OSU 8-1
3. Mich 7-2
4. Wisc 7-2

2017
1. Wisc 9-0
2. OSU 8-1
3. PSU 7-2
4. NW 7-2
(5) MSU 7-2

I believe there was a consensus after the 2015 season bowl games that OSU was the best team but MSU went to the playoffs. Plus Mich lost in a really fluky game to MSU.

In 2016, PSU was considered the best team after the bowls but it was OSU that went to the playoffs. Plus Mich maybe deserved another shot after OT loss to OSU.

In 2017, you could argue that PSU deserved another shot at OSU.

Of course you could argue college football does not give you second chances and that's what makes it great.

I don't think this justifies adding auto-bids for conference champions. The chances of a school wining a conference but not being one of the best 4 teams in the country is too high. Based on 2017-18, if you assume Oklahoma to the P12 (not a given) then they would have had a CFP candidate last year. Otherwise you are looking at USC getting in over a much better Georgia team.

This proposal would have helped resolve the B1G OSU vs PSU vs Wisconsin issue though.

I also wonder how much money is out there for what amounts to another regular season game. Sure, it should be a pretty good game but it's still not much more than a regular season game.

I would disagree about it not being much more than a regular season game. A conference semi-final and championship game would basically act as a feeder system to the 4 team playoff and would serve as an unofficial first round and quarter-finals of an "expanded" 16 team playoff field.

Last figures I remember hearing about the conference title games were in the 25-30 million range for the CCG about 8 years ago, now with boom in media rights currently and the playoff system in place the major conference could likely see 100 million a year for their 3 game packages as a conservative estimate IMO.
