Spin Room AUP updated with the following:

New Thread Expectations
New threads must contain a link(s) for other posters to read and reference, and it's preferable that a short snip of the link be quoted.

Do NOT quote whole articles as they have the potential to be copyright violations.

Question...I have been known to post threads that are trying to create discussion without posting a link...Is that now considered against AUP?

My goal is to have a discussion...

I rarely create threads.....however, I do the same at times and am curious about that as well....

"what grinds your gears" thread immediately comes to mind....

Keep in mind that some breaking stories, such as the IG report being completed that broke last night, did not have a link at the time I posted. I did go back and update the link once a link was available.

Technically, no. The new thread expectations sit outside the ten Commandments AUP points.

If the goal is to have a discussion, the preferred way would be to have a link so that people can have something to work off of. This place is 99.9% political / active news / whatever is happening at this exact moment so just coming in and saying "Trump docs released OMG" without some additional context is not the direction we are going for, sorry.

What about linking to a picture ? Could that also be a copyright issue ?

I think the copyright issue goes away when you provide a link

Not if you post the majority of an article in a post. Blurbs are fine, but nothing more than a short paragraph should ever be posted.

Ok, I was just reading up on it, and it looks like, even providing a link can be a copyright violation... weird.

Generally, they want attribution (which is what the link does) and Fair Use says you can quote a portion of the article. If there was a long pattern of quoting entire stories without attribution, that's when someone might have an issue. But this site aggregates from all over the web, as opposed to from one site time and time again, so in theory a link and a snip should be perfectly OK.

You say it's perfable to add a snippet. If I start a thread, give a link, and give my interpretation is that cool or no?
