I'm kinda in the camp of pitching him Thursday but that's only if Powers is good to go Wed. That'd give Sandlin a full week to rest. Then go Powell on Friday and committee the rest of the way, should we make it. I feel like Wallner is in a pitching funk that he needs to get out of. If we make it to the champ game I'd like to see either him or Nelms start with either mid-releifing. Would be YUGE if we could get a few complete game'rs out of Sandlin and Powers should he start. Surely he's rehabbed, rested well and good to go.

Tendinitis is rough but there are ways to deal with it. There is a magic shot that masks all pain in the elbow for a few months but it’s not recommended. The only way to recover from it is months of rest.

IMO, Powers should should be the g1 starter if he can go.....

if not, he probably goes Sandlin, Powell in g1/g2 depending how his hand recovers...

the one advantage you get by starting Sandin in g1 is he should be available for the championship game if we get to that point.....the downside is possibly using him twice going into a regional.....we don't have to win the tourney to make a regional....however, we most likely will have to win it to be a 2 seed at UM (who will most likely be the 7 or 8 overall seed)......

that decision is a tough one....there really isn't a clear cut answer unless Powers returns.....

IMO, the biggest issue is does Powers return....we're pretty much DOA in a regional if that doesn't happen....

I thought Wallner did okay on the mound today.....the infield let him down a few times and Bowen was absolutely horrible.......I graded his performance a C+....

I would venture to say it's a given we're going to see Wallner DH/pitch again during the tourney/regional.....this is why I wanted to see him get more action in this fashion a couple of mos. ago.....I actually think starting him today was long overdue and a wise decision....

now if bald berry would start Franklin in CF at the 1 slot, drop Monte to the 2, and move Wallner to RF, I'd be all kinds of happy happy joy joy......there's all kinds of good things that happen once you drop Guidry to the 6.....

putting Franklin in the 7 slot is about as dumb as it gets with his slugging percentage.....

regardless how this all plays out, this team has been fun to watch......

you're not wrong.....if it's in his elbow, that is the only solution if he wants to go w/o pain....that one will take you down to china town if you attempt to throw w/o treatment or mos. of time off....

personally, I would take the shot and worry about resting it in the off season as long as the MRI didn't show anything else.....I've done it before.......however, I don't wear his skin.....and I damn sure wouldn't hold it against him or the staff if he has to sit this one out....

the bottom line is w/o him, we won't make it out of a regional......even with him, it's hardly a guarantee we could pull that off.....

not having colt this year was a killer......we really needed that arm......

It’s appealing that this tournament might not be played in it’s entirety. Rain chances for Biloxi this week are 80-90% rain/thunderstorms from Tuesday through Monday.

90% chance on Wed/Thurs/Fri....80% on Saturday, 60% on Sunday, and 60% on Monday. Effin' a....we aren't having this tournament. That or they just drop 5-8...and play a single game elimination between 1v4 and 2v3...?

Well, the more immediate problem is if Powers can even be effective. We remember what happened when Cockrell tried to gut out a start in a regional when he was hurt. Pretty sure one homer hasn’t landed yet.

Unless we lose the first one (I think we only need one to definitely make a regional), i would rest Powers for the tourney and see how he’s doing next week.

Colt would have helped in the regular season but I don’t think he’d be effecfive in the postseason.

Powers hasn't thrown in weeks. No way I would start him game 1.

Pitch Sandlin now and perhaps use him again in some crunch-time relief later in the week.

One thing that "could" be done is just changing it to single elimination if getting started becomes an issue. The Sun Belt ended up doing that last year as they had 2 play in games (7 vs 10, 8 vs 9) on Thursday, then the traditional wednesday games on Friday, saturday was the 4 winners with a championship game on sunday. They also ended up using 2 locations to get the games in as well due to all the rain.

They don't have Mr. Judy calling the shots for them.

Moved down to 80% on W/Th/Fri but up to 90% on Sat and 80% on Sunday/Monday...FWIW

Basically hasn't rained down here in a month, but rain forecasted this whole damn week.

Looks like the whole things gonna get rained out.

Any one know what happens if only a game or two gets played? Someone call Judy. No automatic bid? Reg season champs get the auto bid?

I believe no auto-bid would be awarded.

I don’t think Powers’ injury is anywhere near as serious as Cockrell’s was. The rumor then was that Cockrell was pitching with a torn rotator cuff. His arm had pretty much given out but he wanted the ball. He didn’t have any pro potential so he didn’t really care about risking further injury.

For those of us that have suffered that injury, that is hardcore stuff by Cockrell
