Freedom caucus kills conservative measures
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/...spartanntp
As a caveat, this article only interviews Democrats and not the conservatives or the Republican leadership. So this is the Democratic spin.
"In an embarrassment for House Republican leaders, conservatives on Friday scuttled a bill that combines stricter work and job training requirements for food stamp recipients with a renewal of farm subsidies popular in GOP-leaning farm country.
Hard-right conservatives upset over the party's stalled immigration agenda opposed the measure, which failed by a 213-198 vote. Some 30 Republicans joined with every chamber Democrat in opposition.
The vote was a blow to GOP leaders, who had hoped to tout its new work requirements for recipients of food stamps. The work initiative polls well with voters, especially those in the GOP political base.
Key conservatives in the rebellious House Freedom Caucus opposed the measure, seeking leverage to obtain a vote on a hard-line immigration plan authored by Judiciary Committee Chairman Robert Goodlatte, R-Va. Negotiations with GOP leaders Friday morning failed to bear fruit, however, and the unrelated food and farm measure was defeated...."

This is where Ryan’s leadership is lacking. To be fair, he didn’t want the job. This kind of stuff is what infuriates me about republicans.

you know, I keep hearing folks mention that.....
so my question would be, "why did you take the position, arsehole?"
that by itself not only reeks incompetence in judgment, but lends to his weakness as a leader and the weakness of those that 'willed' him into accepting the role....
when you sit at the big boy table, you either have the cojones or go wipe your arse after every meeting...
Ryan is weak.....he might be nicest guy on the planet with the best of intentions.....none of that matters if you want to lead your party with authority.....
he's gone soon....that's the reason why....
I can't wait to see how the midterms play out......this one's be a blast....

I wonder. I've said over and over that republicans had a strong message in 1994, won big with it, and then lost their way. That's about the time we started hearing a lot about K Street. I wonder if there's some connection there.
And I've met Paul Ryan. Very nice guy. Maybe nicest politician I've ever met. But not the kind I'd expect to be a leader. And it appears that he is not.
