Relocation. The last thing the Association needs is expansion.

I just have a sneaking feeling that one of those relocated teams is gonna be the Magic.

NBA probably is going to cap at 32. I think that is best number to have even divisions and conferences. But until the NBA figures out a way balance out the competitiveness of the league I'm not sure if expansion is a good sell.

If so would like to see the teams rebranded as the Kansas City Royals and the Seattle Supersonics (names of the former franchises in those markets). Does anyone know if the King's and Thunder own the rights to those names?

If I'm not mistaken, I believe part of the agreement when the Sonics moved was that Seattle retains all rights to the SuperSonics history, colors, logos, etc.

Seattle should be a shoe-in for NHL #32 / NBA #31. For NBA #32, I'd strongly consider St. Louis. I would think the preference would be to use an NHL arena and slide in a team. Buffalo could be an option. None of the Canadian cities appeal to me. Outside of the cities with NHL arenas, perhaps Cincinnati or Baltimore. Kansas City, San Diego, and Las Vegas seem like DOA options.

Kansas City never had a NBA team called the Royals - the Kings were last known as the Royals when they played in Cincinnati.

There is a pretty organized effort here in Louisville, although Kansas City and Saint Louis are bigger markets. I have not heard much from Cincinnati regarding expansion - the market may be tapped out between the Bengals and Reds.

I don’t see a team moving anytime soon - Orlando got their arena a few years ago, Milwaukee is getting a new one, and the Nets have settled into Brooklyn. Orlando will be propped up by Disney, and the area’s population exploded after Hurricane Irma - and there will be plenty of construction jobs to fill for years to come due to the Disney/Universal arms race that will last into the next decade - surely a few of those people will go see a game in person every now and then. Minnesota has a lease on the Target Center that runs through 2035.

I could see Atlanta possibly moving down the road, but TV money has kept them afloat despite not having their stuff together most seasons. I’d think they’d be more inclined to move to Gwinnett County or some other suburb than leave the area altogether. New Orleans I would worry about if another devastating hurricane hit the area, but hopefully we’ll never find out.

I think the NBA would probably give Mexico City a team if the league can work out the logistics. The team would have a similar dynamic to Toronto in that their “region” would be an entire country with a large number of expats in the United States, and a large home market to boot. It also helps make inroads for basketball in Latin America.

NBA doesn't want any relocations and everybody is pretty solid anyhow. The owners want to slice up that pie of a minimum of 3 billion dollars for two expansion teams. That's $100 million for each of the 30 existing teams. Ch-ching. Music to 30 owners ears.

One of the issues the Vancouver Grizzlies had was the fact that nobody wanted to play there. I gotta imagine Mexico City would have the same issues.

Yeah. That's one of Toronto's issues too.
