I made a promise
that when the statute of limitations expired I would share some stories. A thread on another message board made me look and this one applies so here goes:

I'm the senior firefighter on an engine company and while on a covering assignment for another company who is on a working structure fire we catch a wreck. We get on scene and find a tractor trailer loaded down with chicken litter (read chicken ****) rolled over on it's side. We treat the patient and after EMS transports we provide traffic control while waiting for the SC Highway Patrol to get there.

The SC Highway Patrol is like most highway patrol agencies in that for the most part they are pretty good guys. But like most they have a few ******** who think that since they are SC Highway Patrol they are gods. Since we were typically an urban engine company we didn't deal with the SCHP very often so we didn't have a relationship built up with them like we did our municipal and county sheriff deputy brothers. This plays a huge part.

The SCHP Trooper who arrives on our scene is a Trooper First Class. This is one step above a slick sleeve newbie trooper. This dude ain't been around very long. He arrives on scene and sees he has a truck and trailer in a lane oif traffic and chicken **** covering two lanes. He also sees that the FD has both lanes blocked because the chicken **** is at least a foot deep in both lanes. He gets out hopping mad because Lord knows nothing pisses off a trooper more than a road being shut down by anybody other than a trooper. He gets in the face of my Captain, a pretty crusty old ****, and demands to know why we shut the road down. My Captain was a Vietnam vet with two Bronze Stars and three Purple Hearts....it takes a lot more than some skeeter wing Trooper to impress him so he says " Because even a dumb*** can see a foot of chicken **** on the road is a traffic hazard." He also tells the Trooper to call SCDOT for a backhoe to clear the road.

Next thing we know the Trooper comes up and says " DOT is two hours out, I'm going to need y'all to wash this stuff out the road." My Captain points out that we can't because there is a major waterway nearby and the ecological damage it would do. The Trooper stomps off.

A few minutes later the Trooper comes back and says "I'm going to need y'all to shovel out at least one lane so we can let the traffic flow." Mind you...it's 9:00PM and we've been on scene close to an hour and diverted a grand total of six cars. My Captain and the Trooper walk off in heated discussion. A few minutes later my Captain comes back and says "Let's clear a lane of traffic before I strangle that SOB. We don't have to get all of it, just enough so it doesn't pose a hazard."

As we shovel chicken **** out the the lane of traffic we get to where the SCHP silver bullet is parked. Seems he left his driver's side windows open. Sucks for him all that massive traffic on that roadway filled his car with what seemed like shovels full of chicken litter.

Well if he had imposed no Harm there would have been no Foul Fowl! But we all know what rolls down hill and sometimes into open windows! Well we now know what happens when the Chicken Truck crosses the road!

RE: I made a promise
It seems some people and their departments are too full of themselves and think they walk on water and that everyone should embrace their demands. When the EPFD took over duties at the airport they thought that they were running things and everyone would bow to them. They told the FAA that they were going to paint our fire trucks red just like the ones in our city streets. The FAA put a quick stop to that idea. They were told those trucks will remain lime green or what ever that color is.

so what you're really saying is people want to maintain their ability to be their 'own' person.....

sounds like a PSYxxx case study to me.....

if I'm in a rural center I pay attention to certain thingys.....

if I'm in an urban center, I pay attention to more thingsy....

either way, I pay attention to thingys.....

such is life when you have the choice to play either game.....some don't win and need to be taught a lesson.....I'm cool with that....
