It's too late to fire the football coach this year, a statement needed to be made, so they fired the A.D. which hired the coach. I see it more as a move to satisfy restless donors and less of a move to indicate a radical change.

I imagine the fundraising campaign will be under the microscope even more so now.

They've announced $350 million in facility upgrades with $50 million committed.

The top priority is someone in the AD's chair to create confidence that if the money is poured in that it will be put to good use.

They need someone who can talk about what is expected of football and the standard that will be in place and hopefully someone who has hired one or more good coaches in football.

Biggest mistake schools make is to get frustrated with the AD and coach at the same time and end up looking for both at the same time or my personal favorite, go sour on both but fire the coach and try to hire a new one when its obvious the AD is a dead man walking.

KU did the opposite of that -- they fired the AD, and the new AD will presumably be in charge of hiring a credible football coach to replace the incumbent coach who is definitely a dead man walking. (Or, more precisely, a dead man waiting to be fired so he can go live the buyout life.)

Yeah kudos to KU, they will get a new AD on the ground by July 1 or so with the knowledge that barring a big turn around there is a coach search to undertake in December.
