FWIW He was also the commencement speaker at a cousins UM graduation. On his move - good time to get away from the brick and mortar department store business. Far away.

Lowe’s is the definition of a brick and mortar store. And their website for professionals is generally acknowledged to be the worst in the building industry. I’ve dealt with Lowes and Home Depot for a long time. HD is where building pros go online. Hopefully, he will turn that around.

Lowe's is a pretty poorly managed corporation all around.

They do fine but they could do a lot better.

Sorry but I'm going to disagree on an important point - 'do it your selfer' guys like me don't have the knowledge to pick the right product the first time. We need to ask a few questions - compare old versus new parts. Stores like Auto Zone does this and so does Lowes. On lines like Amazon can't do that IMO. So I don't think the Sears / Penny's department store issues applies to Lowes or any other company that adds value that's hard to reproduce online. .

back to the subject, congrats to Marvin for sure

It's all good when local people grow up and do well, whether they were in Memphis for high school or @ UofM

It's really cool that the founders of arguably our two most iconic Corporations / Brands both graduated locally from the same high school.

FedEx, AutoZone

I preferred Home Quarters until they went out of business. Of course part of that was because we got $1,000 every three months to change all the AC filers and do general maintenance. Plus any addition parts like belts were extra.

Got that right, in Orlando most store are are within a mile of each other ,i have tried to shop at Lowe's and just doesn't get the same service as Home Depot. The last Straw was a month ago Home Depot was out of a product and i went across the street to purchase from Lowes and i presented my military to receive my discount and was told they do not honor the ID any more, and that i must apply on line and provide a copy of my military dd214 to received the discount. Since the order was already rung up and there was others in line. i just paid for the items and walked right over to customer service to return the items and get a refund.

I don’t understand why so many people seem to think so. I personally like the way that Lowe’s stores are organized better than HD’s. Also, most HD stores seem to be dirty and hard to navigate due to so much junk displayed in the aisles. I live about the same distance from both a Lowe’s and a HD and go to Lowe’s 90% of the time. I only go to HD if they carry a particular product I like and Lowe’s doesn’t stock it.

Why does it seem every HD store in the area has the worst designed parking lot possible? Wolfchase, Cov Pike and Truse Parkway look like a 5 year old designed the parking lots. I know Wolfchase is in a shopping center but the other 2 are free standing and they are even worse.

Home Depot has a tech team. They recruit pretty heavily from Georgia Tech so I've talked to a couple of their IT managers. They all seem pretty sharp.

The new CIO at AutoZone is a Home Depot guy. From what I've heard, he's doing a good job over there. People I respect tell me he seems legit.

AutoZone's IT department was a joke. I was only there for a short time, but they had no idea what they were doing a few years ago. They have a lot to do from an eCommerce standpoint.
