This is a remarkably good thing for us, both from a principle aspect and the good PR.

Legit question though - why are we the first to do so? We aren't a big military metro area, and why would the organization granting this come to us? Not a downer, just curious.

Not to be a negative nancy, but maybe that IS why... Of course, about 15 years ago we had a HUGE Naval population in Millington and surrounding.

Naval support.

UofM and Memphis in general are not big military places, especially compared to other locales.

So even though the University no longer charges tuition they still get all the money that they normally would? It makes sense now if that’s the case.

So, lets hash this out. Let's say there is an American History class... we'll call it 2601. There are 28 people signed up for this class. Along come two or three sons or daughters of fallen heroes. They are added to the class roll. They would not have been able to go to college except for this grant/program, so they would NOT have been there otherwise.

Exactly WHAT money are those extra 2 people in that class costing the University? The lights are still gonna be on. The instructor (read grad assistant) is still gonna give the same lecture. The HVAC is still gonna heat the classroom. WHERE IS THE COST???
Wasn't 2601 the actual course number for History 1 back in the day? 2601 Hist 1 and Hist 2 2602.

That's right... Mid 80s. 04-cheers
Haha all I remember is 2601 and 2 were required and that big arse book.

Oh I remember now why I remember. If someone flunked out we said they were "2601"

The article indicates they had approached other universities but we were the first to agree. I imagine others will start now.

We're getting $5k per student from a grant, and we're forgiving the rest. Honestly, wouldn't you expect that the $5k covers variable costs? So there's absolutely no down side and just good positive vibes. Does make you wonder why others haven't pulled the trigger already.
