Teel: ACC revenues lag behind others
http://www.dailypress.com/sports/dp-spt-...story.html
Quote:ACC REVENUE SHARES 2016-17
Clemson: $30.8M
Florida State: $27.2M
North Carolina: $27.0M
North Carolina State: $26.5M
Louisville: $26.5M
Boston College: $26.5M
Virginia Tech: $26.4M
Pittsburgh: $26.3M
Miami: $26.2M
Wake Forest: $26.1M
Georgia Tech: $26.0M
Virginia: $25.5M
Duke: $25.4M
Syracuse: $25.3M
Notre Dame: $5.8M
Further proof that realignment is all about football revenues as even Notre Dame’s non football revenues within the ACC only totaled about $6M.
Here are some nuggets from potential SEC target Virginia Tech:
Quote:The ACC generally shares revenue equally. Amounts vary primarily due to bowl travel and ticket allowances.
“That’s one reason Virginia Tech is 40th to 44th out of the Power 65 (schools) in budget,” Hokies athletic director Whit Babcock said recently of the gap between the ACC’s distributions and those of its peers. “Love the conference, best one out there, but that network and that revenue piece are a challenge.”
The SEC and Big Ten make more money because of the respective cable channels dedicated to their sports. A partnership with ESPN, the ACC Network is scheduled to launch in August 2019, and the league’s athletic directors are anxious for the subsequent revenue.
Neither the ACC nor ESPN has shared revenue projections.
“We’re all probably kicking around numbers in our head,” Babcock said, “but it would be premature of me to throw one out there. … Early indications on some of the (network) distribution (on cable systems) have been very favorable.”
New Virginia athletic director Carla Williams was a senior administrator at Georgia when the SEC Network launched four years ago. She said ensuing revenue increases were gradual, which tempers her expectations for the ACC Network.
