Why did Big Ten payouts vary so much?
From NJ.com: Here's a look at the school-by-school distribution from the Big Ten in 2016-17:
Wisconsin: $44.3 million
Maryland: $37.3 million
Illinois: $36.3 million
Michigan: $35.2 million
Indiana: $35 million
Purdue: $34.7 million
Minnesota: $33.9 million
Iowa: $33.5 million
Ohio State: $33.1 million
Michigan State: $32.9 million
Penn State: $31.5 million
Nebraska: $24.7 million
Rutgers: $16.1 million

Q: Why the huge differences (other than Rutgers - I get that one)? Is this due to that ticket revenue sharing thing I've heard about? Can anyone explain it?

Rutgers, Maryland, Nebraska still buying in. I believe this is Nebraska's last year as a partial. Maryland (even though they have the 2nd highest disbursement) is still buying in but front loaded their contract.

I don't have the answers for the others. Eleven Warriors forum asking the same thing.

One of the best responses from there : BrutusB - "Big Ten does equal distribution of TV and bowl money, then each school gets to keep most of its own gate receipts and merchandise money. I'm guessing the article conflated a few things as "Big Ten" money."
