Perhaps if the opponent is indeed Kent State.

Other than that.....Depends who the 3 is and how good their #1 starter is.

Say we don't pitch Sandlin and lose the first game. Do we throw him against the 4 seed in a must-win?

I would say no. You have to follow you strategy through.

I tend to lean toward saving your ace for a team like us.

But you have to keep in mind that a big part of the reason for throwing your ace in the first game is that he can come back later if you play a fifth game. Your second game starter isn’t coming back later in the Regional.

The thing is....if you don't throw him game 1, you risk not throwing him at all.
