Rice just needs to figure out what they want to be. Do they want to be a D-I school? Do they want to be a, to use an archaic term, BCS school? Do they want the status quo? FCS? FCS non-scholarship? The status quo makes little sense imo.

An idea I haven't heard before but what about Rice going indy in FB and placing its other sports in the Southland conference?

This way they can put all of their resources into football with the hope of being something someday.

The Southland is way too far of a drop.

The average incoming freshman at Tulsa has a 3.9 high school GPA and 1320 SAT or 29 ACT. If Tulsa excludes based on religion how is it that this Presbyterian college earned notoriety for being the first college in the US to have a mosque on campus? They have Christian, Jewish, and Islamic student organizations.

You tried to slander the school with this post but even a half-assed bit of research would have saved you the embarrassment.

You Sir are amazing.

Enough erroneous staments if not outright lies to allow you to make a run for public office. Congrats.

Based on his posting history, ol' Davey is not susceptible to embarrassment.

Yeah, those service academies are real diploma mills.

Meanwhile, are you saying that the school that became the first in the U.S. to have an on-campus mosque won't accept you if you aren't a regular churchgoer?

David, two errors here:

1) you are making Tulsa guilty by association with Ozarks. Just because one Presbyterian school has a policy, doesn't mean the other does. Every school is going to have it's own policy, and if you want to accuse Tulsa of something you're going to have to find it on their own standards of behavior policy. Ozarks is about the worst school you could use as an example of others, since it is so..... different. No tuition, but every student has a campus job that involves real work; they call themselves Hard Work U. This is also the campus that requires all athletes - theirs and visitors - to stand for the national anthem. They are truly a different animal.

2) I think you've misstated their "church attendance" policy. I could find nothing about this, and it would be surprising since very few colleges would attempt to regulate off campus behavior to this degree. Attending church implies joining a community to a certain extent and by extension an affirmation of belief. They DO require a certain amount of chapel/convocation attendance, but that is a part of the school, a community they have already joined. Lots of schools do this. As such it is no more of a commitment than to participate in the activities of the school they've chosen to attend. It requires no affirmation of belief.

RE: D1 Schools That should Drop Down For Number Of Reasons
In the course of this thread, Tulsa has bounced between being a deadweight and being too small in order to sustain FBS status. And David still has not produced the link to his source that stated Tulsa's 2013 enrollment was 8,000. Now Tulsa is being accused of discriminatory practices based on religion. When you add in the two (2) comments about HBCUs in this very same thread that can be viewed as racist, how is David still allowed to post here?

Just an aside here, private religious colleges are allowed to require students to sign a statement of faith, which is the most practical way to "exclude based on religion". They are religious institutions, after all. While it's allowed, very few of them do because it's practically unenforceable. It is more common for them to require faculty to sign a statement of faith; faculty are the ones who are supposed to impart learning from a particular point of view, after all.

I have no idea what Tulsa's policies are in this regard. I'm just pointing out that it is legal.

University of Tulsa and College of the Ozarks are night and day different. To even say the two are similar, is just plain dumb.

College of the Ozarks may have changed the policies since then. I got all the pact and information in late 1980s. My great aunt was an alum there, and donated a lot of money to the schools. The information back in 1987 or 88 mentioned that you have to attend church, or you would be expelled.

No they are not rare. They are all over Facebook, Reddit, the Spin Room here, Topix, Twitter, and some even spend their time providing expert commentary on MSNBC and Fox News.

Which is relevant to Tulsa how?
Maybe you can tell us more about Harvard by drawing inferences from Florida International.
