[serious] What does voting Democrat do for me?
I know I'm going to get a bunch of stuff from those on the right but I seriously want those on the left to explain to me why I would benefit by voting for a Democrat.

I'm an upper middle class American. My youngest son walks across the stage Saturday morning with his high school diploma.

What benefit does the DNC provide to me in return for my vote?

And go!

It gets you a middle finger, hatred, higher taxes, none of the benefits, higher crime, more bums on the streets, homeless veterans, a larger deficit, more worthless college degrees, more student debt, more unborn abortion slaughters, less wealth, higher cost of living, lower standard of living and on and on.....

RE: [serious] What does voting Democrat do for me?
I'm serious with my question. I want our friends on the left to put forward their argument. I want to hear from Lazytom, Marc, Tigergreen, Mach, Fort Bend, etc. Hell, I'll even grant the folks on the left I have ignored an amnesty for earnest debate in this situation.....well except for JD because he's totally dishonest and we shouldn't allow someone like that here.

I just want someone on the left to articulate their argument. This isn't about Trump or any candidate on any side....this is about the party and platform that you support. Make your case.

So often in the complain-a-thon threads about this forum those of you on the left complain about the lack of serious discussion, here's your opportunity. I want an earnest discussion of why your platform benefits me (and most Americans) compared to the conservative platform. Make your argument here.

You are a liberal. Why should I vote for a liberal candidate?

RE: [serious] What does voting Democrat do for me?
Good luck with this. First of all, good luck finding a democrat who can do much other than spout talking points and repeat the mantra du jour. They are for something because, well, it seems to be the thing to do. All their friends are doing it. Hollywood and the media are telling them how cool it is to do and how uncool conservatives are. Secondly, when you can find one who is able to express himself independently of the talking points they are so eaten up with liberal utopian pie in the sky idealism that it's difficult to engage them in serous conversation regardless of how well spoken they may be.

Now, your democratic leaders aren't stupid, which is why they are leaders rather than rank and file, they are the ones to fear. Rank and file are largely harmless unless they've bought into the extremists methodology, most don't, their involvement is little more than skipping work, or school, to protest the latest indignation suffered by someone perceived to be helpless who must need their help, regardless of whether they really do or not. However, more and more we are seeing these events turn violent, led by small groups of fringe element radicals who despite their lack of real numbers garner a disproportionate level of coverage. The KKK would fall into that group.

As far as I can tell the dems have never had a message or platform other than that of propping up those bottom tier citizens whose votes can be "bought" and taxing all of the country for the benefit of the few, those whose identities make for good identity politics. If Martians suddenly landed you can bet the dems would create a panel to represent and lobby for them, The Green Congressional Caucus, The Martian Coalition or the NAAGP.

I think most just like the "free" stuff though.

Honestly, unless you're

An illegal
A "refugee"
A member of some societal fringe group
A member of a "protected status" group
A public union member
Work for the government
On welfare

There's ZERO reason to EVER vote "D".

I think as well that a lot of people (white people, rich white people specifically) have a lot of "guilt" about how this country was founded and then expanded. Voting liberal is a way of assuaging this guilt without actually doing anything.

Its like the concept of "white privilege." It was invented by a group of well to do white people who feel guilty about how Blacks were treated in this country and who have no clue of how most people in this country live.

I'd love to see one of them go explain it to a laid off factory worker in Iowa in a county that has less than 1% Black people.

RE: [serious] What does voting Democrat do for me?
I think it's a valid question to ask.
I can see no present benefit to our country from the Democratic Party.

heck, Kennedy had more in common with Ronald Reagan than today's Democratic Party. "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country," just holl9ow words long-forgotten by the extreme fringe that has taken over the Democratic Party. Today's Democratic party slogan is more like, "Gimme, Gimme, Gimme-and take it from others. who we hate--oh, yeah, Peace, dude--(yeah, right.)"

Do dims still post here?

Perhaps you should ask that question over at the Lunatic Underground? And thinking of that place, I think I'll pay a visit and see if TDS has laid waste to the place.

RE: [serious] What does voting Democrat do for me?
What many of today's Democratic leaders/followers fail to grasp is that a significant portion of their former base feels compelled to vote for republicans since despite reservations as they come across as more centrist than the extremists running as dems.

Take a look at the present GA Governor's race, where the Democratic candidate has openly described abandoning their middle class base voters and leaving them to fend for themselves in favor of an even more extreme voting bloc they feel is their future. This is not only non-productive and divisive, but it is antithetical to any inclusiveness message the Dems purport to carry. As long as Democrats seek to be ultra-exclusionary they will fail overall, even if they occasionally surface due to republican foibles, scandals and ineptness. We need some rationality again in American politics that comes from a shared value system many in this country long-ago abandoned--hence the fringe left takeover of today.

RE: [serious] What does voting Democrat do for me?
Democrats can't tell you what they'd do for you because they simply can't win on their agenda.

Seriously... could you imagine if they came out and said what they wanted and were honest?

Vote for us!
1) We will raise your taxes, no matter who you are.
2) We will penalize you if you can't afford health insurance, which is absurdly expensive now that we F'd it up.
3) We will grant amnesty to all illegal immigrants in the country.
4) We will open our borders to anyone who wants to come here, even if they don't do it legally.
5) We don't want you to be any better than your neighbor, because fairness is more important than happiness.
6) You didn't build that - somebody else made that happen.
7) We will tax businesses right out of the country, and then blame the businesses for being greedy, and penalize them.
8) We will give special treatment and priority to groups that make up less than 4% of the population because, you know... you're mean, racist, trans/homophobic a-holes.
9) We think that non-white people are the future - so, sorry whitey, you don't matter anymore.

RE: [serious] What does voting Democrat do for me?
Can I flip the question around?

I'm a gay, recent college grad millennial who doesn't own guns who works two jobs to cover my living expenses and pay off my loans:

My degree job: a civil engineer who designs steel structures at entry level pay. (President Trump just imposed tariffs on steel imports which will hurt my business)
My side job: a server at a restaurant on weekends. I don't have to worry about making credit card payments, student loan payments, and car loan payments to help maintain my credit and I can build my savings.

My wages were not increased despite the tax break my company got.

I commute to work every day of the week (those gas prices though).

I get a basic level of healthcare through my degree job, but would absolutely have to pay out of pocket if I went to a hospital for whatever accident or surgery.

The contractors that my company works with sometimes exploit illegal immigrants for cheap labor. It's wrong, and illegal immigration is a problem, but my bonuses stay high because of it.

I also work closely with environmental agencies and plan to pursue that career path one day.

Taking the above into consideration, here's what I'm interested in:
-student loan forgiveness/affordable education
-replacing my healthcare premiums with a tax that everyone pays
-being able to marry and start a family with whomever I want
-protecting the environment for my job and my future children

Things that don't matter to me:
-illegal immigration
-abortion
-people on welfare
-"the race war"
-Christian values

So what does Conservative Christiandom and Trickle-Down Economics have to offer me?

RE: [serious] What does voting Democrat do for me?
I once asked one of my left leaning co-workers this one time. What can you say to a conservative to ever have them consider voting democratic? She said well I start with a question, do you in any way think in any way the fruits of your labor should be shared with those less fortunate? If no, this conversation is over. If yes, let's discuss ways that it can be done fairly and efficiently.

It's a shame that the democratic party has been taken over by the ultra-progressives. There are reasonable democrats out there, but their voices have been silenced by the leaders of the party. Not every democrat is a socialist, that's just what the party has become and is why middle-left is being pushed middle-right

Nothing. But that is not what is in the White House.

The three big reasons you should vote for Trumpism (for a lack of a better word) are

Freedom of speech
The right to bear arms and
Due process

With those three, you will have the one thing you truly need: Freedom.

Freedom to marry
Freedom to protect one’s self, family, property and community
Freedom to purchase, or not purchase, as much or as little heathcare or student loan debt you desire.
Freedom to work for a company that pays you a wage you find appropriate, in an industry you admire and support
