Exclamation Time to expand Tiger Lane?
Saw in another thread that there are 200 on the waiting list for Tiger Lane. Is this the time to expand Tiger Lane?

I could see doing a similar treatment on Early Maxwell headed toward Central. Or, running toward Southern in the other direction.

There are probably many other ideas that could result in more Tiger Lane. Brainstorming, anyone?

I've heard the city and/or UofM have considered expanding it down Early Maxwell towards Central. I figure that'll happen sooner rather than later.

Think it would require the construction of a parking garage in order to expand tailgating area and retain enough parking.

RE: Time to expand Tiger Lane?
It was discussed in Bowen's first year as AD and is still on the back burner, I would imagine. Discussion was (and maybe is) going to the south towards Southern, but the Coliseum is the problem there.

It's really on the City to be able to fund a project like that, if it ever comes to fruition.

Just my 2 cents on old info.

I'm just not sure the City would go for that

Didn't they fund several improvements to the LB in recent years?

There are issues with schools, crime, etc. that the City funds should prioritize as a first go-to.

Would like to see a parking garage on the handicap lot just north of the stadium. Or maybe the lot southwest of the stadium and just north of the MSC. Four story garage would take care of a lot of the parking issues with bus parking on top level.

Tourism zone money going into the upgrades. Money cannot be used for schools or other tings.

It was or is? What is "tourism zone money" for the uneducated? I've been called 'uneducated' already today, so honestly I'm trying to understand.

No. They need retail to make the tax district work.

But then again, basically all of midtown is covered so.

This has tons of info, including a copy of the actual statute...

https://www.memphisfairgrounds.com/

There have been numerous plans. At one point a second spur of Tiger Lane was discussed. However, it is my understanding the most recent plan does not include an expansion of Tiger Lane

You can have a TDZ and a TIF? They are different. The university district is a TIF. The fairgrounds is a TDZ.

Here's the basic information on a TDZ. [1] Basically, The city gets part of the sales tax generated in a area, instead of that money going to the State.

But their has to be a project associated with it, typically a convention center.

I could see doing a similar treatment on Early Maxwell headed toward Central. Or, running toward Southern in the other direction.

There are probably many other ideas that could result in more Tiger Lane. Brainstorming, anyone?

They just expanded Tiger Lane ,all 200 on the waiting list can rent a tent already setup:

Driving back from Panama City Beach this past Sat I drove through Tuscaloosa. First time I had ever been there so I decided to drive through campus and take a look at their stadium.

One thing I noticed... the parking situation.

Wow!! Unless I'm missing something on Google maps doesn't show much parking at all. Where do they park out. Maybe there are parking garages that are not showing?
