When I lived in Memphis my tickets were on that side. Nice views and close enough to see the drunk fans heckle the opposing players.

But...it would seem that the U of M would gain great benefits from finding a way to move the TV cameras to the opposite side of the LIBERTY BOWL so that the home team seating can be shown on TV instead of the visitors side. There is probably some expense involved in doing this but the recruitment and PR benefits would be immense considering the number of our games now on TV. Also, our fans and supporters chances of being on TV goes up as well not to mention that the players bench would be shown more too...from the front instead of the back. Does anyone know if the U of M has considered this and why it has not been done?

Isn't it preferable for the cameras to have the sun at their back versus looking into the sun?

they could do that with software

That is the smallest thing to worry about

We have a winner. This is THE reason, originally, that cameras & cabling for the video feed adjacent to the press box & home sideline were set up on the home side. Better lens technology & use of wireless closed circuit technology today, however, should make a transition to the visitor side much easier - if enough interest by the right decision makers. There are camera platform locations above the tunnels to accommodate cameras on the visitor side.

Some sort of retractable awning would fix all of this

Almost all outdoor football stadiums have press box on the west side and the cameras are set up on that side to keep from looking into the sun.

I simply don't think it's logistically possible to move the cameras to the other side.

However, I do my part and sit on that side for the TV exposure. And you should too.

One would think if it were that simple a do, it would have been done.

Since the discussion is about tv games, wouldn't they be the ones setting the time for the game?

Correct.

These days, only our FCS games allow us to control the start times.

This is a good problem to have...means they are desired games. The alternative is to play games on Sat. night behind an ESPN+ paywall or streamed on Facebook (like SBC and CUSA). Old BE teams built a nice following playing on ESPN Thurs/Fri. Make the most of the opportunities I say.

Topic related, but I was made aware of something recently that I had no idea about....

Somebody who would know told me that's a standard that football stadiums are built in a way that the East / West longitude / latitude is a perfect pitch for the sun in the East on one side and West the other. I felt bad for not knowing that, but I guess it makes sense. Even all the way back to the LB built back in frickin 1965.

Generally, the same with baseball stadiums. Hence lefties are called southpaws because they pitching arm faces south. Or at least that is one of the explanations.

That is not unusual. Most stadiums aren't true North/South.

The sun doesn't rise at absolute East or set at absolute West in Memphis.

(tongue firmly implanted in cheek) That's not how Rocky explained it.

Looked it up and here is what I found. Southpaw is a slang meaning for a left-handed person, actually a left-handed baseball pitcher. It originates from the practice in baseball of arranging the diamond with the batter facing east to avoid the afternoon sun.
