Civil ConFLiCT 2018-Questions for UConn fans
We're coming up for the UCF/UConn game this fall and are wondering about tickets. We have the option to buy through UCF right now, but we're not sure yet how many folks are going, so we're wondering how many aftermarket are typically available.
I know some schools lock up any extra tickets making the secondary market a bit thin. We'd like to wait until closer to the game to buy, but we want to make sure we still get decent/cheap tickets. Are there usually a lot of tickets available to buy last minute?
Also, any recommendations for things to do in the New England area? This is our first trip to N.E. (outside of Boston) so we're planning a tour of the surrounding states (New Hampshire, Rhode Island, maybe Maine). Our nephew is based in New London with the Navy, so we'll be staying there. We'll have a week to explore after the game.
Thanks!

In Connecticut, you could hit the Woodstock Fair that weekend (New England agricultural fairs give you a good taste of New England life).
In Rhode Island, you could go to Newport and tour the mansions. You could also take the ferry over to Block Island (one of the most beautiful places on the planet in my opinion - rent mopeds and see the whole island as there are so many scenic places there). In Providence, WaterFire along the canals in Providence is amazing if it is happening on the Saturday while you are there (it doesn't happen weekly).
in New Hampshire, you could head to Portsmouth NH. Not only does it have a great naval history, but it is a lot of fun. "The Docks" are a series of waterfront bars that are jamming in the summer. There are scenic harbor cruises or a cruises to the Isles of Shoals. Plus, the town has a huge craft beer scene and there are a ton of breweries to visit. Also, you could head up to the Mount Washington valley and drive up Mount Washington. Or, you could take the Cog Railway all the way to the top. Also, they have a heritage railway in North Conway that does scenic train rides through the valley which are awesome (if you are into trains).
As for Maine, Portland ME is one of the best beer cities in the country. There are a ton of great breweries all throughout the city and the restaurants along the harbor have the best seafood fresh off the boat. It is a friendly little city and I always have a blast there.
Hope that helps.

^ What he said.
Also, until Edsall 2.0 can get UCONN back to the Edsall 1.0 era, there will be lots of cheap (& probably decent) tickets at the gate.

there will probably Be about 28k-30k in attendance (this season is still filled with hope at this point lol) you can just go to UConnHuskies.com and tickets are there. You will definitely be able to get tickets lol. Try stubhub or other discount ticket websites as well for the cheapest deals. There is also the option of buying them at the stadium. Im pretty confident that there will be solid seats available last minute. Also since the Rent is only 40,000 there really isn't a bad seat in the house. Also for things to do in CT...you could go and see a Hartford Yard Goat game, tickets are dirt cheap. They just opened up a really nice park called Dunkin' Donuts Park. Check out mystic aquarium as well. The CT air and space museum is cool little spot to check out as well.Check out the listings at the XL center There is usually a concert or other performances going on there as well.

In CT, I forgot to mention Essex Steam Train and Riverboat. Also, a trip into New Haven for pizza is always time well spent.

Thanks for all of the suggestions! We're definitely going to be looking into the craft brewery scene up there, so Portland sounds awesome. We were also thinking of Mt. Washington and the cog railway, so sounds like we're on the right track (ha, ha).

This game scare the hell out of any other UCF fans?
Heupel's first game as a head coach, on the road in a place we never play well in, against a UCONN team that is improving steadily under Edsell and has been together for a few years. UCF has a big target on our backs, I'm nervous this could be the 2014 FIU Thursday night opener all over again

we never play good our first game of the season...at least since we joined the AAC. you will probably build a big lead. We will make a comeback, but it wont be enough and you win by 15 or so.

That is a great guide. That said, Cooperstown is just shy of 4 hours by car from the New London, CT area. That is a haul (plus the drive in upstate NY through the miles and miles of cow pastures and corn fields is sort of boring). If he wants to do a sports a hall of fame, I would recommend visiting the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, MA (that is just slightly over an hour from New London, CT). Then, spend the rest of the time on the New England coast or in the White Mountains. The coast and mountains are more "vacationey"

I just gave him an ETA from Hartford. Didn't catch he was staying in New London. As for driving to Cooperstown you realize The Catskills and Adirondacks along with places like The Hudson Valley, Casinos and Saratoga Springs would be nearby? Not just cow pastures and cornfields. :Cheers

There is no doubt that the Finger Lakes and the area around Cooperstown are beautiful (though it is pretty much just cows and corn between Albany and the Finger Lakes). The other places are not directly on his route if he goes there, though. The Catskills require heading an hour south of the route to Cooperstown (I-90) from Albany and the Adirondacks are about 90 minutes to 2 hours north of I-90 from Albany. Saratoga is definitely worth a stop if they are racing (great town and Lake George to the north is amazingly beautiful - I go there one weekend every summer), but I think the summer meet is over by the time he is heading to the area. If I were him, I would stick to New England where everything is closer together and you can check things off your to do list that are directly on a planned route. It would enable more time to do things on a short trip and less time spent sitting in a car. The White Mountains, coastal Maine, Lake Winnipesaukee, Block Island, etc. are hard to beat for what it sounds like he is seeking. Also, while getting to those places, one can stop along route in Newburyport MA, Hampton Beach NH, Portsmouth NH, Kennebunkport ME, Ogunquit ME which makes for little driving and all offer options such as sight seeing cruises, fishing cruises, booze cruises, whale watching, as well as great towns for just hanging out. Can't go wrong either way, though.

Cooperstown has a soft spot for me. I played in a baseball game at Doubleday Field...amazing experience for a 15 year old. You are right he can't go wrong doing of the above.
