LIU Brooklyn sponsors women’s ice hockey
LIU Brooklyn will begin sponsoring women’s ice hockey in the fall of 2019.

https://www.theicegarden.com/2018/6/5/17...-2019-2020

Their eventual league will probably be the CHA. Lindenwood would probably move to the WCHA from the CHA.

Have hypothesized that a men’s DI ice hockey team would eventually find a home in the now smaller renovated Nassau County Coliseum. Perhaps LIU will do it. Atlantic Hockey would surely accept a men’s team on Long Island.

LIU Brooklyn, Syracuse and Lindenwood are the only schools that have varsity DI women’s teams but lack men’s teams.

The Coliseum is more than an hour from LIU Brooklyn’s campus, more if you get stuck in traffic. And if you’d like to take transit, you’d probably be looking at three different trains and a bus. Seems unlikely that the downtown Brooklyn school would look out to Nassau County as a desirable destination.

It is so strange the DI LIU Brooklyn and DII LIU Post have both announced women’s hockey teams. Post could have been a DI women’s hockey team too, but they chose to play in the only DII league in the country. Moreover, Brooklyn now has 13 women’s teams but only six men’s teams. The two campuses are under the same private umbrella, so don’t know if the name LIU is creates overarching unity among Post and Brooklyn campuses. Post can create a DI men’s team too but the DII women’s team creates a problem for Title IX.

Stony Brook and Hofstra are much more natural candidates, but neither has lifted a finger.

LIU-Post, which is in Nassau Couty, recently added women’s hockey too.

https://www.theicegarden.com/2017/12/3/1...-expansion

The New York City metro area needs more men’s hockey programs. Army and Princeton are currently the only ones to the north and west. Long Island produces a lot of talent.

Both LIU campuses have to play D1 women's hockey since there is no D2 championship in that sport. Or 2: both campuses are merging and they needed to add a women's sport to offset the Post football team moving to d1.

At D2, there is a conference championship for both men and women.

For their own reason, the NE-10 doesnt elevate their hockey programs to DI.

american International and Bentley plays D1 in hockey. They are NE10 schools. NCAA does not sponsor ice hockey championships at the D2 level.

The only division would be ACHA which is club hockey which the NE10 schools are listed there. ACHA have schools all over the place like some D1 NCAA schools in D3 ACHA and so forth. LIU-Post adding a varsity women's program can not be in the ACHA. They have to play in the NCAA D1.

Correct, there is no NCAA title. The Northeast-10 is working to bring the women into the conference. Click NoDak's link. Also look here - http://www.scholarshipstats.com/hockey.html

Would that mean NE10 moving to D1 in hockey for both men and women's? Post mentioned that they will move their hockey teams to NCAA D1 as an Independent. They are at D2 as Independent for the hockey. Next season Post would be independent in D1 for both men and women's. I think the goal for the NE10 schools to join the D1 ranks to join with Bentley.

There is no desire for D1 at all among the D2 teams and NE10. On the men's side, Post is a scheduling member of the NE10. The season ends with the NE10 conference tournament but Post is not included. All women's teams listed above are in a scheduling alliance with D1 schools Holy Cross and Sacred Heart called New England Women’s Hockey Alliance. NEWHA is essentially a conference with weekly awards and a conference tournament. Holy Cross is joining Hockey East this season. The NE10 also has a women's conference tournament for the three NE10 members. The schedule for all men's and women's teams are filled out with D3 teams for OOC games.

http://www.collegehockeystats.net/ is an easy site to navigate for more information.

LIU-Post is a club team so they will most likely join ACHA.
