Penny Provides Update
While preparing for FedEx St Jude Pro-Am with Norvell, Penny gave an update.

Here are a few highlights:
1. All the players are on campus
2. Tx Tech is the last OOC high major on next year’s schedule. Penny will strive to upgrade future schedules. He wants to test the team before playing AAC teams.
3. The primary off season goal is building a culture.
4. Expects “healthy competition”
5. Sees Lance Thomas in a stretch four role. Penny assumes he will not be eligible this year, but will work out a scholarship if Thomas becomes eligible.

Thomas needs a scholarship this year regardless of his eligibility.

If he isn't eligible, I believe he can still have a scholarship without counting against our "player scholarships".

Incorrect. They are allowed 13 schollies per year for men's basketball. Redshirts count against that number.

Oops... Looks like I was wrong. I don't know where I got that idea... must have read it on here somewhere. ;-)

Maybe the kid agreed to pay his way and "walk-on" this year if he's not eligible.

Why is Penny giving his son a scholarship? Just doesn’t make sense. Never know what might happen; unless the kid is really smart and they need him for APR.

Maybe because he believes in his son and thinks that he can help the team. His son improved over the last year some and it is also a status thing. Let's be honest, It is very hard to play more than 10 players significant minutes anyway. If I was the head coach, my son would probably on scholarship as well.

If I was a multimillionaire and getting paid millions of $'s to win games I am going to take every advantage I can get.

An extra scholarship is a big advantage.

If he doesn't need the scholly because he cannot find anyone worthy let his son have it for APR reasons but otherwise you pull it. I don't care if my son is a top 25 rated 5 star

He is going to surprise you. He has gotten stronger and his range has extended. He won't play over the one and done's but he will be a four-year kid and will contribute. His high school academy coach also talked abut how he developed last year and he was flying under the radar

Penny will always have the option of paying his tuition and giving the schollie to another kid but Penny believes in Jayden and it's his team.

It matters to the player. Big difference to a young man between having daddy pay your tuition and a getting basketball scholarship to the university of Memphis. Jayden won’t be paying for it personally either way, but if you can give your kid a b-ball scholly, you do it.

We disagree here...

You do what is best for your employer and your career and that is having an additional scholarship player on the team.

I don't think Jaden cares who is footing the bill.

He cares if he gets on the floor.

Penny has donated much money to the U.
He even gave a mill in one scoop.
He can do whatever he wants with the scholly.
