With all this money floating around UConn is in financial trouble as is Hartford

Why didn’t you set up a college savings for her? Did you guys try to talk to her about taking classes at a community college before going to UConn. That way she could save money by taking basic classes for a lot cheaper. Did she work while she was in school? Over $100,000 in student debt for an undergraduate degree is ridiculous

Especially at a public institution...

Yup. Lots of ways to save money. If you go to any Connecticut community college for 2 years, you're guaranteed admittance to UCONN to finish out your degree. Also, in-state tuition/fees are about $15K per year without a single scholarship or aid package. Having $100K in debt means it took you longer than 4 years to graduate or you racked up $40K in student housing/meal plan debt.

For reference, these are the rankings Boca is speaking of...based on seven key factors of modern University production and societal impact: Quality of Education, Alumni Employment, Quality of Faculty, Research Output, and Quality Publications, Influence, and Citations. Widely regarded by those within Academia as the pre-eminent ranking of quality due to its assessment parameters and overall understanding of what thoroughly makes a University more productive as an entity.

UConn: 75th (highest ranking, Quality of Faculty = 141st globally) [2/7 in Top 200]
Cincinnati: 79th (highest ranking, Citations = 151st globally) [4/7 in Top 200]
South Florida: 96th (highest ranking, Citations = 174th globally) [1/7 in Top 200]
Houston: 103rd (highest ranking, Alumni Employment = 114th globally [1/7 in Top 200]
Temple: 112th (highest ranking, Influence = 296th globally) [0/7 in Top 200]
Tulane: 123rd (highest ranking, Alumni Employment = 295th globally) [0/7 in Top 200]
Central Florida: 128th (highest ranking, Citations - 405th globally) [0/7 in Top 200]
SMU: 133rd (highest ranking, Quality of Education = 27th globally) [1/7 in Top 200]
East Carolina: 190th (highest ranking, Alumni Employment = 704th globally) [0/7 in Top 200]
Memphis: 205th (highest ranking, Alumni Employment = 500th globally) [ 0/7 in Top 200]

Unranked: Tulsa and Wichita State
Unconsidered due to affiliation: Navy

Funny, as I work in academia.... I disagree with that statement.

REAL people within academia regard nearly all of these polls with a simple eyeroll. There are thousands of reasonable metrics with which to rank a university and cherry picking from them to make your own institution look better is just a reality we live in.

Eight years in the faculty ranks of Civil Engineering along with 6 years as a staff member at three institutions (all of which are large, public research institutions...none on that list above), but the only rankings any of the three institutions I've been housed at have only mentioned CRWU.

REAL people within academia have different interpretations of what's important depending on what area of academia that they're a part of...no? I'm assuming from your avatar name, you're a member of the classical arts (law)...as a STEM guy (engineering), we look at VERY different things when it comes to what's important.

11 years in Neuroscience.

The best University in our Conference academically is Tulane by a country mile. The worst by a good margin is mine. The rest are bumping around in the middle.

My school is not as good now as when I attended. I love the old girl but she is not doing well.

A scandal that would have permanently wrecked most schools lowered the rank. In reality, no. AAU
