He makes reference to negotiations happening well before 2025 to explain why the AAC will get the contract bowl before 2025. He says 'we need to have that automatic, and i think it's going to happen before that deal runs out'.

Pretty clear cut ..

Just type out the entire quote. He literally explains that the negotiation will be done prior to the end of the current deal because they never wait until the very end to renew. He then says we will get in there and "fight" for what we deserve. He does say he "thinks" it will happen. I hope he is right---but that far from a guarantee. He also states in the interview quite plainly that we are not going to get SEC/Big10 money--but then he says we will get in P5 range. lol...whatever the hell that means...

At the start of the quote, he says that a key focus is getting a contract bowl and then says that this will happen sooner than 2025 .... because these deals get negotiated sooner than the expiry date.

Maybe you are just more literate in Arescospeak than i am? 04-cheers

Exactly---its clear he actually talking about the negotiations as he has said in other inteviews (including the 5-part interview on the AAC website) that a contract bowl would have to be part of the next CFP--so no actual CFP slot for the AAC until after 2025 at the earliest. However, the negotiations (like our contract negotiations) will occur prior to contract expiration (2025)---likely sometime in late 2023 or 2024. Bottom line---he doesnt expect the AAC to be playing in a regular guaranteed CFP slot reserved for the AAC before 2025.

To be clear - I have known all along that Aresco wasn't saying that the AAC would actually have a NY6 contract bowl to play in before 2025. He was saying that a deal would be negotiated well before 2025 that would have the AAC playing in a contract bowl after 2025, when the current CFP deal expires. Much like say the AAC might sign a TV deal in 2019 that doesn't go in to effect until 2021.

If that was what you were arguing with me about than we misunderstood each other, because i never meant to claim that Aresco was saying that, e.g., the AAC would actually start playing in an NY6 contract bowl in say 2023, only that we will sign a deal for one before then, with the deal going in to effect after 2025.

Ahh---then we're on the same page. More power to him if he can pull that off---but I have far more confidence Aresco will win a big bump in the TV deal than I do he will be able to do much to significantly improve our post season bowl situation.

I agree. I am very confident we are going to get a significant TV raise, highly doubtful that we can score an NY6 contract.

But, doesn't that kind of indicate the lack of importance of our commissioner, no matter who they are? I mean, we will get a TV raise because we have proven good ratings. That's low hanging fruit, our schools have sold themselves the past six years to earn that. Now, getting us an NY6 contract will take real skill, but that isn't likely to happen.
