Northwestern leading nation in CFB Arms Race?
“Move over Clemson, Oregon and Alabama ... Northwestern's ridiculous new practice facility is on another level”

https://sports.yahoo.com/move-clemson-or...58185.html

Quote:The facility looks as if a rendering from “The Jetsons” dropped on the shores of Lake Michigan, with 45-foot floor-to-ceiling windows that run the expanse of the entire practice field overlooking the water.

Fitzgerald is entering his 23rd season as a player, assistant or head coach at Northwestern, all of which have been housed in a facility that would be considered mediocre in the MAC.

The fact that Northwestern, which for decades alternated between being a Big Ten punch line and punching bag, now leads the college football facility race can be considered one of the biggest upsets in the history of college athletics.

In other words, NW just caught up to the rest of the Big Ten.

Whether they are just catching up or not, that's a beautiful facility.

Amazing facility, great location close to a large city, quality education, playing in a major conference, coach that seems like a guy you'd WANT to play for.

Good to see.

As a long-time advocate for amateurism, the race for ridiculous facilities and sky high coaching salaries has pushed me into the pay the players camp.

Schools simply have run out of ways to use their money to make big improvements, now it's this McMansion race to have Italian marble counters instead of cultured marble.

Well it fits! We have a much larger volcano than Vesuvius sitting in Yellowstone and the barbarian hoards continue to cross the borders everyday. Meanwhile the wealthy bid on the highest public positions and refuse to put their children in harms way in service to our empire. Hell's bells what do we do here but discuss the gladiators every day and check out the babe of the day thread!

Constantine co-opted the church to sustain things when the empire was threatened and we've even passed that phase.

Things are cheap in Italy so maybe we should move there and complete the cycle.

Actually talked to a guy not long ago from Texas who retired early. He did the math and he couldn't afford it. Then on a lark started looking at the small city in Spain he and his wife had enjoyed visiting. Health insurance savings got him over the hump to affordable.

Maybe we will start out-sourcing our retirements.

Some of that outsourcing has been going on for quite awhile. There are many American retirees living in Baja California.

Spain would be nice, though I don't know anyone living over there, whereas for someone in Baja it's easy to visit family and friends who are still here.

New Zealand! Great trout fishing, no stinging insects, no poisonous snakes, and lots of lamb to eat. And I sort of speak their language. You can go from snow skiing to water skiing in a few hours. And other than those danged leftover orks from the triology there's not much that is detestable.

I am an Irish citizen as well as an American one.

Maybe after I retire, I will move there.

Not a fan of lamb but each year I find I detest southern summers more and more.
