UNT = way over-rated. The Mean Green won a ton of games by the skin of their teeth last year. They didn't suddenly get great. They were the luckiest team in America.

Now, if you mean LA Tech and USM need improved QB play to beat really good teams, then I agree with ya.

You act like LA Tech is some kind of grand program that just needs to show up to win. The Dawgs lost to UNT, UAB, and USM last season. You can point out how close the scores were, but at the end of the day, LA Tech lost.

North Texas brings back almost every piece of our offense this year, while LA Tech has to replace most of your secondary, and half of your LBs. Plus, the Dawgs have to travel to Apogee.

In my opinion, the west will be a two team race between North Texas and UAB. Our game at Birmingham could very well decide the divisional title.

Look at it THIS way: Last year was the best football team UNT has ever had. And you still only beat a mediocre (by Tech standards) and much injured LA Tech team by 1 measly point. That won't happen again. Expect a beat down on your own turf. 04-chairshot

Last season was not our best team ever. It was our best offense, but our defense was down right terrible. I think you forget how long UNT has been playing college football at the highest level. Remember UNT got forced down to DI-AA in 1983. North Texas had been playing football at the highest level long before LA Tech crawled out of the Southland 1993. 04-jawdrop

Since WWII North Texas has had several great seasons while playing in the highest level of college football.

1947- (10-2) beating Florida and Houston
1958- (7-2-1) beating UTEP, BYU, Tulsa, Houston, and Louisville
1959- (9-2) beating UTEP, Cincinnati, Houston, and Louisville
1967- (7-1-1) beating Louisville, Colorado State, Cincinnati, and Tulsa
1968- (8-2) beating Colorado State, Tulsa, Cincinnati, UTEP, and Louisville
1977- (9-2) beating UTEP, SMU, Southern Miss, Memphis, and LA Tech (41-14)
1978- (9-2) beating UTEP, Oklahoma State, LA Tech, Southern Miss, and Memphis
2003- (9-4) beating Baylor, MTSU, and Arkansas State
2013- (9-4) in our first season in C-USA

I will agree with you that we will not beat LA Tech by 1 point this season. We will stomp a mud hole in LA Tech at Apogee on Sept. 29th. 05-stirthepot

03-lmfao Tech left the Southland in 1986, years before UNT came back up to join the big boys with Tech.

Tech had the foresight to never join the LoserBelt, UNT had no other choice but to play in the bottom barrel league for 15 years.

LA Tech finally left DI-AA in 1986. North Texas played with the big boys for decades before forced into DI-AA for 11 seasons.

The Dawgs "foresight" still landed them in the same conference with North Texas, so don't laugh too hard.

As things stand now, North Texas is the defending Western Division Champ and favored by many to repeat. I still have yet to read a good argument as to why North Texas would lose to LA Tech at home this season.

You just have your arse planted in Apogee Stadium on Sept 29th, and you'll get an up close and personal view of LA Tech's argument. This will be 3 beat downs in a row that LA Tech puts on UNT inside Apogee. Maybe we should name it Bulldog Stadium? 05-mafia

I'll be in section 205 where I always sit. I hope you enjoy the tailgating, because you won't like the final score. 07-coffee3

Not forgotten, either. LA Tech had a 30-yd chip shot FG attempt blocked on the last play of the game. Tech lost by 1. It was Tech's first ever loss to UAB in football. Tech now owns the football series between the two schools, 5-1.

In return, UAB can expect a nice beatdown in Ruston this year. 05-stirthepot
Just as an addon, four La. Tech wins were during UABs first 4 years as DI-A from 1996-1999. We played as DI-AA from 1993-1995.

Ironically for this thread, North Texas was our first ever DI-A victory in 1995.

Well, if you're going to start looking at that kind of nonsense, 1996 was only LA Tech's 7th year in Div 1A. And I believe 1995 was UNT's first.

I'm not sure we were forced down to 1AA in 1983, rather UNT chose not to increase the capacity of Fouts field to 30K, per NCAA requirements to stay D1A at the time. Unfortunately UNT didn't have the leadership at the time to do whatever it took to meet whatever requirements were placed on programs. In addition, some programs who did not meet the 30K requirement were "grandfathered" in and stayed in D1A. My guess UNT would have been aligned with Memphis, Cincinnati, Houston, Louisville, and the rest of the core programs that made up the Big East or the first edition of CUSA. Not sure of the exact course the conferences took during that particular time. North Texas made a bad decision and have paid dearly for it ever since.

clt says Charlotte leads NCAA football in wins added between 2013 to 2017, when compared to 2003 to 2007.
