Southern Miss right-handed pitcher Nick Sandlin (Evans, Ga.) collected the school’s first National Pitcher of the Year Award Wednesday morning, earning the selection by Perfect Game/Rawlings.
Sandlin, a second-round pick by the Cleveland Indians earlier this month (67th-pick overall), made the transition from the bullpen to the team’s top starting pitcher this season. The Golden Eagle was one of five starting pitchers to make the first team, while Southern Miss third baseman Luke Reynolds earned second-team honors by the media outlet.
and some of the stats he put up by season's end in 15 appearances totaling 102 1/3 innings:
- 10-0 record with a 1.06 ERA
- 3 complete game shutouts
- combined on 3 other shutouts
- 144 K, 18 BB, 12 earned runs, 11 extra base hits (9 doubles and 2 HR)
- 9 double digit strike out games
- 5 games he didn't allow a walk
.....and during his 3 year USM career (1 year starter, 2 year closer) he went 23-5 with 20 saves
