NCAA Redshirt/Transfer Rule Changes Officially Pass
College athletes can now participate in up to 4 games and still have it count as a "red shirt" year.

https://www.ncaa.org/about/resources/med...ortunities

Players will now be allowed to transfer and receive a scholarship without a coaches permission. In other words, no more blocking transfers to certain schools. A tampering rule was also added to prevent poaching or recruiting of athletes already under scholarship at another school.

Both really really good. Any idea if the redshirt rule applies to BB too?

Football since it’s 4 games

I’m sure they will figure out a number for basketball soon enough

Wouldn’t that equate to about 10 Games for basketball?

So if a head coach takes a new position at a different school in December, the entire recruiting class could transfer if desired?

Isn’t that the way it is now? A kid can transfer with a coaching change?

More or less. 1/3 of the season.

My understanding is currently a student needs approval from his current school to transfer, that would include those signing in December.

yes this is the rule now. Schools can blcok other schools and although the student could still transfer they'd have to pay their own way. Either way the student has to sit out a year first. This new rule just means they can be on scholarship while they sit out even if the original school blocked them.

So no more blocking kids from transferring in-conference?

I expect to see a lot more transfers between UH / SMU / Tulsa then.

I believe the conferences can set rules to prevent this if they want.

they will still have to sit out a year. You could always transfer to wherever you wanted, but before if it was blocked you had to pay your own way for the year you sit out. Now you will get a scholarship no matter what, but still have to sit out a year.

I'm aware of that but the scholarship loss basically negated a lot of kids' ability to transfer within conference. Now that won't be a problem. I'm curious how many conferences put in place their own transfer rules.

Does the-tampering rule have any teeth? Big schools are poaching a lot of players from the mids.
