OT: BREAKING: Comcast makes $65 billion all-cash bid for Fox
https://variety.com/2018/biz/news/comcas...202844736/

Philadelphia cable giant Comcast said Wednesday that it offered $65 billion for the bulk of 21st Century Fox’s TV and studio assets, topping a previous $52.4 billion bid for the properties by Walt Disney Company and likely setting off a bidding war between two media giants.

But a deal would bolster Comcast in similar fashion, adding new heft to its Universal movie production operations, its NBC Sports unit, and its cable programming operations, among other properties. And a win would lend Comcast new momentum in its quest to grow after AT&T was granted permission Tuesday to complete its $85.4 billion purchase of Time Warner.

Ehhh...I actually see this as potentially bad for us. If Comcast buys Fox----would NBC then have access to FOX TV rights properties like the Big12, Big10, and Pac12?

If it is the same as the Disney deal, they would get the regional Fox sport stations, while Fox would keep FS1 and re-brand FS2 or one of their other sports stations ....

I would assume this is the same package disney was buying which didnt include any of the news channels, the OTA channel or FS1 so i dont really see it changing much since Fox was pruning to focus on their news and sports properties.

Ahh. Yes, if its the same deal then it really has very little affect on the college sports landscape. 04-cheers

It would mean that the XMen are kept separate from the Marvel Universe though... Sad.

Disney deal was the stated 52.4Billion stock switch but also had another 13.7Billion dollars of Fox's debt getting assumed by Disney so its already more at 66.1Billion dollar value, without including Disney stock will be worth more than current when the deal goes through.

I re-distributed some of my portfolio as a result of what looks like may be coming down the line mergers. This may not stop for a while unless the DOJ wins an appeal (unlikely).

If Comcast gets the Fox Regionals that could mean NBC makes a serious run at the AAC media rights. A number of those regional networks are in AAC markets.

I'm not crazy about our content being on the former Fox Regional Networks. Our exposure on ESPN has really helped the AAC gain traction. I can't tell you the last time I watched ANYTHING on the local Fox regional channel. I don't even know what channel it is on my cable system.

For 3rd tier rights they would be great. Fox Ohio is a showcase for the Bearcats when our game is not on ESPN and ESPN2. Fox regional is better than ESPN3

Havent we been told cable TV is dead and that Disney has no money? Odd that we have two entities with no money bidding billions to obtain these dead wothless assets.

The film and tv catalogs that are in these are billion dollar franchises. Disney's offer today is $85Billion=13.7B of Fox debt+ 71.3B in Stock/cash(up to 50% of shareholders holding) that each Fox shareholder decides which they want.

I'd like to know exactly how one withdraws $65 Billion in cash. You'd need ten armored trucks to transport that much.
