Matt Bragga - New Rice Baseball Head Coach
Quote:A 19-year veteran of the head coaching ranks, Matt Bragga has been named the 21st head coach in Rice baseball history, Director of Athletics Joe Karlgaard announced Friday afternoon.

“Matt Bragga is the right person to carry on the terrific legacy and national prominence of Rice baseball,” said Karlgaard. “He has 19 years of head coaching experience and has driven success at multiple levels of college baseball. Everyone we spoke with said that the reason Tennessee Tech has been so successful in recent years is Matt’s ability to identify and develop talent, inspire young men and teach the game of baseball. His commitment to the development of the whole person in a fun and positive learning environment will enrich the lives of both current and future Rice baseball players."

It is a terrific hire. Public knowledge of Bragga's accomplishments (until this season) was somewhat eclipsed by Vandy baseball in Middle Tennessee, but now he is going to a big-time program where he will get better exposure. From a personal perspective, the opening at Tenn Tech is something I am following closely.

I am starting to think the same. Best offense in the country this year, and 8 players selected in the MLB draft, while operating from a limited budget. Bragga should be able to build a monster program with the Rice facilities, and get us back in the Top 25.

Bragga did an admirable job at TTU.He worked with middle of the road support and facilities while recruiting to a school with higher admission standards than other OVC schools. He should be able to hire assistants with strong Texas contacts.

I know some are still indignant with how OG was handled by JK while others were in the do-or-die LB camp, but I hope Bragga not only gets the support he needs from the administration, but from the fans as well. I'm looking forward to see Bragga continue the strong tradition of Rice baseball in the years to come.

RE: Matt Bragga - New Rice Baseball Head Coach
We offered Bragga but even I can admit as much history as we have in baseball Rice is better job. I really thought/hoped Rice would stick with someone with state of Texas ties. If so Bragga probably accepts the MT offer.

Looks like COC Assistant Head Coach and former skipper for Liberty (Toman) is the likely choice for MT.
