If by infrastructure you mean a building, yes, we have a building that was previously was an office building for physicians for the old hospital which was tore down after a new hospital was built a few miles away nearer I-24. That physician's building has had some remodeling done already and houses some functions that can be moved to other facilities. This building is just a few blocks to the west of the main campus.

clt says that grass looks horrible.

It's been a vacant lot for approaching a decade.

clt says the parking deck could use a pressure wash as well

With the hospital gone, I'm not sure how much use that parking deck gets.

I'll grant, it's been eight years since I moved away, but I don't believe there's much in the area that would need parking, it's just far enough from campus in one direction and "downtown" in another to not really benefit either.

Now here is a "non-surprise" for you. Not one , that's right not one, of the 13 Voting Members of the Tennessee Higher Education Commission is a graduate of MTSU. And only one, the Chairman, who graduated from Rhodes and the University of Memphis lives in the Boro. Looks like we gonna get a heavy dose of UT and UM grads, a sprinkle of TSU and a little bit of Vandy thrown in for good measure. I'm thinkin this mission is gonna be real challenging.

As a native of Bedford County it is my sincere hope this comes to fruition. There need to be viable public professional programs in the MT area.

If any of these Memphis yahoos or UT fans or whoever need any more proof than what has just happened here then I don't know what to tell you. Just a systemic attempt to continue to undermine and keep the university from improving and growing.

I'm about ready to say screw it and give up. What's the point of trying to support this place?

I know Memphis feel like we finally have enough representation on the THEC to get the medical school pushed through...it'll be a close vote though.

Sorry MT fans...that sux :-/

The people entrusted with running the state of Tennessee care more about politics than than they do higher education. Nashville is as corrupt as Islamabad. I've already told my wife our kids won't be attending college in the state of Tennessee.

Welcome to WKU's world. UK and UL is the reason WKU can't grant terminal degrees. 03-banghead

RE: OT: MT in Talks to Acquire Valpo Law School
We can thank Memphis and UT for not getting the law school. See votes below. The THEC is so corrupt they gladly throw the taxpayers/citizens of Middle Tennessee under the bus to protect their interest in other parts of the state.

Votes to approve transfer:

Evan Cope of Murfreesboro
Dr. Nancy Gishner of Johnson City
Dakasha Winton of Chattanooga
Jimmy Johnson of Gallatin
State Treasurer David H. Lilliard, Jr.
Votes to deny transfer:

Mintha Roach of Knoxville
Vernon Stafford, Jr. of Memphis
Former Shelby County mayor AC Wharton, Jr. of Memphis
Pam Koban of Nashville
Frank L. Watson, Jr. of Memphis
Secretary of State Tre Hargett
State Comptroller Justin P. Wilson
Cara Sulyok, a student board member enrolled at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville

I would point out that AC, while a former Shelby County Mayor, attended TN State for his undergrad degree and Mississippi for his law degree.

RE: OT: MT in Talks to Acquire Valpo Law School
Notice what's missing from that list? Anyone with ties to MT.

You know why. Because no one will let us have an f'n law school.

I don't mind that so many members come from other schools or parts of the state. But what we know is that this vote much like all the other ones was 1000% political. This state does not take much seriously except the people in power staying in power and using their influence to steer things where they want it to go. We literally had a science building that is practically dangerous for students to be in. Probably should have been demolished years ago. And the new science building sat #1 on the list of priorities for a freaking decade. No. 1 year after year yet was past over for funding.

If I had it to do over again I would not get either of my degrees in this state. My kids won't as I've already said.

RE: OT: MT in Talks to Acquire Valpo Law School
President McPhee reacts to THEC's decision

MTSU President Sidney A. McPhee said he was "very disappointed" in THEC's decision to deny the law school transfer.

"I think THEC based their decision on politics rather than our proposal," McPhee said in a phone interview on Tuesday.

Place bound students will suffer the most, along with those who are economically challenged, he said. A perk of MTSU acquiring the law school would be offering an affordable public school in Middle Tennessee.

THEC had a consultant conduct an independent feasibility study to examine issues surrounding the law school transfer. Jane Sadd Smalec, who presented the results of the study at Monday's commission meeting, repeatedly spoke of the competition the law school transfer would create among schools in Tennessee.

"Students and individuals will vote with their feet," McPhee said. "Competition is healthy."
