RE: Prediction
It would be interesting if there was morality governance and schools like Penn St, Michigan St, & Baylor were ejected from the P5 for their scandals that transcended academia and sport.

RE: Prediction
Ive said for quite some time that Art was the not the main problem there. Briles was reporting this stuff. He wasnt going out of his way to punish his players---but it was getting kicked upstairs where it was looked at and largely ignored (even the Waco Police Department played a role in this process and was complicit to a significant degree). But I mean---what exactly is a coach supposed to do if the police and school administration investigation says the kid does not appear to have done what he is accused of? As more information come out---the football team doesnt even represent the majority of the assaults that were covered up (not even close). Dont get me wrong---Briles should have moved to discipline his players internally and should have removed the offenders from the squad if the investigation says they are guilty. Thats on him. The real issue is the Baylor rape scandal was a systemic problem within the general student body, the administration, and even the Waco Police. There is a reason that the president and much of the BOR are gone (and not just the football coach).

Glad I'm not the only one who noticed the Waco Police shared a significant portion of the blame.

I wouldn't call Briles clean but it never could have gotten as bad as it did without the administration and local officials being part of the problem.

Exactly---Briles wasnt clean--but he largely was doing what he was supposed to. He turned the allegations over to the administration (as he should have)---where the administration and police were basically sweeping it under the rug. That said, I think Briles was aware of what was happening up there and was probably not unhappy with the result when it came to his players. Briles coached at UH for years and we never had such issues because the environment within the UH administration (and the Houston Police Department) would never allow what happened in Baylor to occur. So, Briles is certainly not "clean"---but he is not the real key to the Baylor scandal that many believed he was....and his assistants were even less responsible.

Briles’ daughter went on a Facebook rampage against Baylor after Art’s firing. Maybe she had a point. Maybe he’ll get hired again.

Not at Baylor, but his odds go up elsewhere. At least none of the football players shot each other like hoops squad. What Pearson in their right mind would let a kid go there?

And the coach got jobs at lower levels and Baylor was given a “non-con death penalty”. Has that ever happened before?

The Big 12 will never kick Baylor out, but if Baylor themselves decided they wanted to de-emphasize sports, who do you think would get their spot in the Big 12?

Houston would probably be the most logical choice, although if they are looking for a better moral choice, maybe Houston is not the best choice.

Maybe they could take BYU for football only, but there are cultural issues with BYU.

Memphis, Cincy, UConn I believe have had NCAA rules violations. I could be wrong.

Boise St has academic issues.

That leaves maybe Col. ST, USF or UCF. Guessing they take Col. ST.

RE: Prediction
Lets not forget that BYU is also having a rape scandal where they boot the victims from the school. That is why many students from the BIG 12 said no way to them.

Florida State is still not out of the woods yet with Winston and other cases involving rape and other issues.

Boise State booted the player that Baylor picked up that caused the uproar for what he did at Baylor. It is a red flag if a player gets booted from college.

Cincinnati hasn't had any signification violations since the 90s. Those other schools have all had NCAA violations in the past decade.

I think Houston is the only choice. The schools outside of Texas need a Texas replacement. SMU is out since TCU reps the Dallas Metroplex.
If there was a dark horse candidate, it would be Rice University. It still allows the Houston market but ups the academic profile of the conference.

This sounds like another university that had similar problems and it did not get them kicked out of the conference it belonged to.

Every school has violations - all the way down to Div III. Not every school has such high profile issues like Baylor or Penn St, but even Alabama had serious issues in the 1990s. It’s kind of like doping in professional cycling: everyone’s doing it, so try not to get caught.

The Big 12 just withheld 25% of Baylor's revenue. Further, with TCU on board, there's no need for a second private school to keep Big 12 meetings hidden from open records requests.

It's not impossible. It is, however, unlikely.

But Baylor can be "left out of the next round of realignment" in ways other than being "kicked out." For example, if Texas and OU leave the Big 12 and no other P5 conference picks Baylor up.

Rice runs a squeaky-clean program.

Obviously that weirds-out a lot of people, sorrry. We'll just have to disagree with the approach that so many programs do take.

What happened at Baylor is abhorrent.
But, as you point out, the culture that values winning 'at all cost' is pervasive in college sports.

My point though, is that the adults in charge should know better, and act better.

If UC is buying strippers, weed, paying for abortions, making up a class etc. for the recruits we target then we aren't spending our money wisely. We don't recruit on that high of a level.

The advantage of having a private school to keep meetings secret is an interesting consideration that hadn't occurred to me. And all the P5 conferences have at least one.
