2 Female GOP Sens Who Seemed Hostile To Barrett Hint They’re Ok With Kavanaugh
If true, game, set, match.
Quote:The two woman GOP senators who seemed recalcitrant about supporting President Trump’s nominee for the Supreme Court are hinting they will be fine supporting Trump’s actual nominee, Judge Brett Kavanaugh.
According to Politico, Lisa Murkowski (R-AL) and Susan Collins (R-ME) were far less confrontational after Trump’s announcement Monday night than they had been with the possibility of Judge Amy Coney Barrett joining the Court.
Murkowski allowed, “Let’s put it this way: There were some who have been on the list that I would have had a very, very difficult time supporting, just based on what was already publicly known about them. We’re not dealing with that.”

Lol, hell of a fight dems. Over before it even began, unless michael moore is going to weeble-wobble his ass to the Capitol like he threatened, which by the way, I fully endorse. I’ve got my popcorn and leftist tears mug ready.

Murk and Collins both know that there is an approximately Zero percent chance that either Roberts or Kavanaugh will be part of an all-male, 5-4 majority to ban abortion.

No surprise. Barrett was the only candidate who might not have passed. Kavanaugh is completely qualified, has nothing on the record that says he wants to overturn Roe, and will be plenty smart enough to just give the stock answer about respecting precedent when grilled about Roe. Roe is basically dead though. They may not want to touch the hot potato of completely overturning it, but they’ll hear a case and affirm Roe is good law but basically allow states to be able to restrict it to the point that it’s basically illegal.

The Democrats have zero chance of getting the votes to not confirm before midterms. Their only hope (and even that is a minuscule one) is to delay the hearings until after midterms.
If you think this hearing will get ugly though, wait until Barrett replaces Ginsberg. That's likely to be an all-time low.

Agreed. They'll defer to the states, who will then probably defer to the counties, who will then defer to individual cities and towns...

Like I keep saying, this can go down now or if the Dem's want to wait until after the November elections, then fine. They might want to take a long look at that map for November before they decide.
Dem Sen's in states Trump won by 19+:
IND (57-38)
MO (57-38)
MT (56-36)
WV (68-27)
Dem Sen's in states won by < 10:
FL (49-48)
OH (52-44)
WI (47-46)
GOP Sen's retiring in states Trump won:
AZ (49-45)
TN (61-35)
UT - doesn't matter, Romney landslide
Gotta hold all 7 seats and hope to gain both TN and AZ. Oh, and Doug Jones can either vote w/ Schumer and Pocahontas or attempt to give himself whatever slight chance at re-election he might have in the future (which isn't much) by confirming Kavanaugh.

The 4 or 5 most intense personal conflicts I’ve ever witnessed in the professional/corporate world were female-vs-female.
I have a different take on this....
SOME men in business are complete a-holes. we all know this... and in many cases in the past, it has not hindered and potentially even aided their ascent. I think there are many women, especially of a certain generation who have modeled these a-holes as 'what it takes to be successful', but because they've only seen men from the outside, they have somewhat of a caricature of it. Hillary is one of those. Her 'serious' voice sounds like something out of central casting for a Tammany Hall remake... or like the movie trailer I've seen where black customer service reps succeed by adopting a 'white' voice... whereas many other successful women (on both sides of the political aisle) have maintained their own persona... which has also allowed them to 'get upset' in the same tone, whereas when Hillary got upset, her tone changed completely. Because it was an 'act', it worked against her.
I think lots of women don't like women who act like they 'think' men act.... in no small part but because it makes what these bad men actually do seem reasonable. Hillary justified Bill's transgressions and made George a sympathetic character.

It might be but with the election of ALL THESE REPUBLICANS IN THE MIDTERMS she will be a shoo-in.

Unless Kavanaugh somehow screws up very badly at the hearings, this is done. The only questions remaining to be answered are, what will be the exact margin? and will the head of Chris Matthews explode while he’s on-the-air, or in the privacy of his home?

I don’t know; I don’t think anyone else really knows, either, aside from his wife and immediate family. But it’s the sort of situation where no-news probably isn’t good news.
RE: 2 Female GOP Sens Who Seemed Hostile To Barrett Hint They’re Ok With Kavanaugh
There’s still about 11-12 weeks to go in this process and things could change. But right now, the range of realistic outcomes appears to be anywhere from 51-48 to confirm, to 57-42 to confirm.
I just don’t see any way that Kavanaugh fails to receive 50 GOP votes (McCain abstention) plus Manchin. Alone among Democrat Senators, he simply must vote to confirm as long as all GOP Senators do, as well.
6 other Democrats who could go either way, depending how events unfold:
Jones, AL
Donnelly, IND
Heitkamp, ND
McCaskill, MO
Nelson, FL
Tester, MT
The other 42 Dems (incl. Sanders/VT and King/ME) are automatic No-votes.
