They must have really wanted him gone to axe him for something that happened during training.

Remember that big green pepper they'd include with every pizza ? My cat, when he was a little kitten, ate one of those peppers.

Gave him the runs for nearly a week.

To me it's not ok. I don't use it at all. Now, contrary to popular belief, we in fact do not have each other's email addresses or phone numbers so I can't ask the community at large for the overarching opinion. Sorry about that.

It's not a unique phenomenon though. There are plenty of words that will get different reactions depending on the context and who says it. The N-Word is just an extreme example based on an extreme history.

If it never came out in Forbes, he would still be there. They reason they wanted him gone because of two big PR hits that cost the shareholders 25%. It also cost the relationship with Peyton Manning and could be costing them their partnership with MLB.

This couldn't have happened at a worse time for them. Papa John said it was the NFL protests holding up his sales, but Dominos is on the rise and has dedicated resources to making really good PR moves. Little Caesar's offers a decent pizza cheaply. Pizza Hut has always had the better product. Papa John's really grew when Dominos was on the decline. In the past few years Domino's stock has gone up over 5000% with store and IT upgrades making the experience way better. Schnatter made his politics known and, like you guys have said, a lot of people who do that are adversely impacted.

Bad PR moves can be acceptable if your competition is floundering, but if they're on the come-up, you can't afford them.

I still think Pizza Hut is where it is at. Since they started offering Pasta and other things, I order from there far more than anywhere else.

Oh, and Cici's pizza will make ya' fat, lol...

Pizza Hut has always been my favorite. Papa John's has been my go-to because they're the only ones who deliver to my house, but the Hut is just a runaway favorite in regards to the actual pizza.

I used to love Papa John's but then there pizza started to look and taste completely different. Like they changed the recipe or something.

RE: Papa Johns founder John Schnatter resigns over racial slur exercise
I'm more bothered that we don't look at the intent of the word when being scrutinized.

If I say, "My boss called the factory guys a bunch of stupid n--rs" is SO much different that if I called them that to my boss.

The fact that John was just relaying that someone else referred to blacks as "n----rs" is just contextual and not "racist."

Now if he were laughing about it saying that statement was hilarious, that would be different, too.

But it appears he was simply restating what he was purporting to be a racist remark made by someone else and wondering why that person didn't have backlash.

The lack of Marco's support among Conservatives in this thread is clearly partisan hackery.

You were sounding reasonable until the Pizza Hut has a better product bit.

The crust- I think years ago they used to make their dough in-house but now they bring in frozen crust from a centralized location.

I must admit whether you like the man or not, what he accomplished in such a short period of time is pretty remarkable. I first had Papa John's ~1990 or 1991 before it got really big. I remember thinking how great it tasted at the time. Within a few years he started getting franchisees all over the country. Like most things once they got so big it dilutes the products (pun intended in this case).

If I remember correctly, I first had Papa John's around 2004-ish. I remember it had a starkly different taste than Pizza Hut or Pizza Pizza. The sauce was very rich. You could be right about the dough though. It's like paper now.

I do think Schnatter's story is great. He worked his tail off. But with growth, you have to become more corporate and I don't think he was built for it. Even the Waltons don't put their faces on Walmart like their father did. Your personality can become an issue that way.

Have to go along with this sentiment. Where I live Domino’s is the better chain, however we have a local outfit that blows all 3 of the big chains out of the water.

If you're wondering about a competing PR campaign, Domino's is filling potholes in 20 cities. It's only gonna cost them $100K but it's much better than what's happening to the Papa.
