Carolina set to play Auburn (Chic-fil-a) in 2020

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- North Carolina and Auburn will play in the third and final game of the 2020 Chick-fil-A Kickoff in Atlanta on Sept. 12.

The matchup between the Tar Heels and Tigers has been rumored for months after Central Florida announced in February its 2020 game with UNC had been rescheduled for the opening weekend of the season.

West Virginia and Florida State will open the festivities at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 5, two days before Georgia and Virginia square off on Labor Day. This marks the first time the Chick-fil-A Kickoff event will span the first two weekends of the regular season.

the first time was a doozy

So Virginia agreed to a one and none home game for UGAg -- but opted instead to make the beat down a signature nationally televised event and to accordingly move it to an even bigger stadium. Okay.

We can always dream of UGA getting embarrassed though.

Maybe we will have a repeat of 1979 when UVa and Wake Forest beat the Dawgs (both in Athens).

Remember when Lou said ACC teams needed to schedule more appropriately... and they did... and they won... and the reputation of ACC football soared?

I'm a fan of the game, not so much a fan of 3 kickoff games being held in one stadium in one week. Just seems to take some of the shine off of the game. Also wish it were a home and home so I could have an excuse to go to Chapel Hill.

I see this working out as exceedingly well for the ACC as the Charlotte kickoff games between Tobacco Road and South Carolina.

Yup. Lou has always been right on that one.

I don't think that UNC playing Auburn and UVA playing Georgia counts as ACC teams scheduling appropriately.

Estimated scores:
Georgia 63 - UVA 0
Auburn 35 - UNC 7

There isn't a team in the SEC that UVA should be scheduling not even Vanderbilt. UNC should be playing Kentucky, Vanderbilt or maybe USC-e but we've already seen the gamecocks win over a 10+ win UNC team.

My point exactly... Illinois was a good opponent for UNC, and UVA should stick to teams like Kansas and Rutgers for now... IMO.

Actually, the UNC/Auburn game is week #2. The 3 games are Sat, Mon, and the following Sat.

The Carolina scheduling move here is bad and stupid and short sighted and a detriment to the league.

The Virginia one ... well ... Virginia football is now forever cast into the dunce category of the conference. That one move was about as stupid as the combined brilliance of George Welsh's entire career.

The only place Tar Heel fans like more than Chapel Hill is Atlanta. This is a tip of the hat to Alumni Association, although I suspect that UNC will have a new hat by then.

If you want to use four letter words to describe this then those four letters are ESPN!

Maybe that's why Fedora told the press today about concussions and that football was under attack and that losing football would cause the demise of America.

https://www.wralsportsfan.com/fedora-den.../17706374/

That's sewing the wind at UNC between their medical establishment and big chunk of their students.
