I would believe Dickie V was 150. He's been around as long as I've been following college basketball and he was older than dirt then.

And as annoying as sawdust in your shoes.

Dickie V is the one oldie I have zero nostalgia for. Everything about his style is hollow. I cringe everytime I hear diaper dandies.

He’s a legend, and I love him now more than ever. He’s toned it down, obviously. I find Walton entertaining as well, and every once in a while he actually adds something relevant.

I watched the ‘95 Carolina-Duke game the other week and WOW, what an unashamed Dook homer Dick used to be! He even wished the game into OT for Dooookie babbbbyyyy!!!

Walton? Mr. still believes the Pathetic 12 is the "Conference of Champions"? I watched a little of the game he called and regret doing so. He actually mentioned Arizona is the last of the "Conference of Champions" to win the title. Does he not realize anyone with half a brain or who could do an internet search can then figure out how pathetic that makes them look and how that makes the phrase outdated? I mean what were you doing in 1997? Some of you might not have even been born! I was a grad student at Penn State. I didn't have this board, I had a board called "rec.sport.basketball.college!" And if anyone wonders why I still call my "Schmolik 64" the Schmolik 64? Well when I started doing it, there were 64 teams in the NCAA men's tournament! Come on Arizona, hit a damn free throw! The NET rankings are obviously broken. How is Arizona ranked higher than Maryland? Or Florida State?

I just find myself laughing at remarks like “that’s the 9th worst possession in the history of Oregon basketball!”

I don’t think he takes himself too seriously, but he acts like he does.

RE: The OBE to ACC teams - floundering
I'm a Bill Walton fan. I recall in the 1973 — watching UCLA vs. Memphis State for the title — when the big man went 21 of 22 from the field in a dominating performance. My father, a Tiger fan since the early 1950s when he enrolled, gave Walton full credit. I enjoyed watching him play for Portland in the NBA and I like his announcing to this day. Yeah, he's a nut but he's eccentric and authentic and he mentions stuff like campus history/architecture, elements of the towns in which the schools are located, the women's sports programs, etc. He's different, quirky and "anything-but-cool." I relate to that. I emailed Bill one time to mention the UCLA vs. Memphis game (and how he dominated our Tigers) and tell him how much I enjoy his announcing style. He emailed back promptly and was appreciative and pleasant.

Bill Walton's color commentary is not for everybody. But for me, I enjoy it.

Probably my favorite announcer in the sport. The guy is absolutely hilarious and it’s sporadic and authentic...not scripted catchphrases.

He's got a soft spot for Rutgers -- he enjoyed his time as an assistant here.

I forgot DV coached at Rutgers. Dickie beat my MTSU Blue Raiders in NCAA tourney in 1977. Might have been his last win as a college coach. Somebody please check that for me.
