The GNAC would have to get ALL four of those together for the GNAC to be attractive to any of them. Right now all of them are in a very good NAIA conference (Frontier) with very good rivalries, and they get respect in the polls and great playoff opportunities. Any individual school in the Frontier invited to the GNAC would look at it and think "why the heck would we do that?!?!". The football situation in the GNAC is a hot mess, and adding 1 or 2 schools isn't going to fix it.
It's been widely reported in the past that the GNAC is after Carroll. But Carroll is no longer an NAIA power in football. It used to be that it was the only sport they cared about and they focused their funding on it, but in recent years (perhaps in preparation for a D2 bid?) they've been building their other programs. Is that what's hurt football? You'd have to be an insider to know that, but it makes sense to me. So Carroll has now found out how hard it is to be competitive in more than one sport. They've got to be rethinking the D2 thing, and in fact I haven't heard any rumors to that affect in years (except occasional mentions on this board, like this one). And if Carroll is no longer a football power, is the GNAC still hot for them? (well I guess they'd take anyone at this point, but they probably aren't hotter for Carroll than anyone else). They do have a nice stadium...

I agree that currently it's all message board talk and wishful thinking by D2 people about the Frontier 4 going to the GNAC. The conference just needs football teams no matter how good or bad they are.

They're saving it for the NoDak Pre-Game Show sponsored by Quilted Northern.

At this point they need to either pick up 2+ football schools or they need to make plans to disband and find other homes in U Sport (Canadian NCAA), RMAC, NSCC, or the LSC.
Does anyone know how invested in football Azusa Pacific is? Would they consider dropping football and spending that money on becoming DI in the WAC? Could they go non-scholly in the Pioneer with San Diego?

APU ---> WAC
APU FB ---> PFL
i've seen those topics discussed on other boards...APU could follow the template that USD has established...APU would be a good travel partner for USD...right now USD is the only west coast fb team in the PFL...

Besides their men's basketball, AZ's football is a winner that they should not drop. Omaha's best sports moving up were football and wrestling. Now, they suck at the D1 level without both sports.

No one knows but them. I haven't seen any obvious APU reps on this forum. But one insider told me their move from the NAIA to D2 was a "football move", so I believe they are vested in football. They believe they get regular students who want to go to a Christian college in California and who also consider Saturday football a part of a "real college experience". They are the only ones who offer this.

i wonder what would've happened if uno converted to non-scholly football in the pioneer football league instead of dropping football???

RE: Humboldt State to drop football
UNO apparently had some concerns about Title IX, so while thee wouldn't have been any scholarships with a PFL team, the participation rates still would have been out of sync, although the four-letter network has cast doubt on whether that was really an accurate decision:
http://www.espn.com/espn/otl/news/story?id=6488960
I also wonder if UNO would have been wiling to go the full FCS route and just have a couple of bodybag games each year to pump up some revenue. The MVFC could then be looking at divisional play, or the Summit and MVFC could be separate leagues.
You wonder if San Diego and Azusa Pacific were both in the PFL, if teams would simply fly to one game, then use a short week to prepare for a Thursday game against the other opponent, and then fly back. That way there could be one trip every two years rather than one trip each year.
