First Win for Trump-Putin Summit: Agreement to Restrain Iran in Syria
No wonder why liberals are so incensed. After all, how is the Military-Industrial Complex and their stooges in the media and the Uni-Party supposed to finance their wars if there aren't any new wars to finance ?
Quote: But the summit has already produced a very significant win: namely, agreement to avoid a war in the Middle East by restraining Iran in Syria.
Most of the Beltway journalists at the press conference were too busy asking about the 2016 election to ask about either Iran or Syria. But the Israeli media noticed — and so, too, did Yaroslav Trofimov, the Wall Street Journal‘s Middle East columnist, who reported that Putin had granted Israel’s request. While it was not clear whether the two leaders had agreed to push Iranian troops out of Syria, it is clear, as Glick observes, that Iranian troops cannot operate within Syria without the help of Russian air cover.
On Tuesday, Trump told reporters at the White House that Putin was “very much involved now with us” on guaranteeing Israeli security in Syria. Whether Putin follows through remains to be seen, but it is certainly a step in the right direction — of peace.
And so while Trump’s critics compete to show how outraged they are that he even shared a stage with Putin, and the opposition accuses him of treason, the president appears to have scored a victory for American interests in the Middle East.
This might explain the influx of sock puppet trolls online...

I have always felt that alliances should be pragmatic in nature. Russia makes sense as a US ally, even though we are true polar opposites on many issues (lgbt issues are at the forefront, but there are others).
Friend and ally are two different words. Shades of meaning count.
We don't have to like Russia, but we should be on the same page with them to avoid a conflict that really would hurt America.

Russia and the U.S. have a clear common enemy in all varieties of radical Islam.
I fully expect Putin and Trump said let's castrate these idiots regardless of the rest of our issues.

Agreed. And as I've said eleswhere, the majority of islamo-terrorist breeding grounds are in countries that are generally much closer to Russia than the US. They're a threat to Russia as well. Lend a hand, but let the Russians throw treasure, blood and flesh at them.

Partner is a better word.
Russia doesn't want Iran and North Korea spreading nuclear technology any more than we do.
We have areas of mutual interest that we can partner in.

Russia also doesn't want a China strong enough to take Siberia from them. There are only 15 million Russians in that whole vast area and many are not ethnic Russians.

If China wanted something in Russia that bad, I doubt the US would stand in the way.

It’s not like Russia is the Ukraine, with no nuclear weapons for a deterrent. China will play the long game, as Siberia is rich in natural resource that China needs. Mongolia is already nearly a puppet state economically, but Mongolia provides much mineral resources that China needs. Siberia is the same. China can reap those mineral benefits much more than Russia.
