Voters in Blue Oregon Could Deal a Major Blow to State's Sanctuary Law This November
Quote:An Oregon activist group looking to curb illegal immigration gathered the required number of signatures to earn its spot on the ballot in November.
Stop Oregon Sanctuaries (SOS), the group responsible for the upcoming referendum, earned over 110,000 signatures for its initiative. It only needed to turn in 88,184 valid signatures.
According to The Oregonian, the new ballot initiative aims to repeal an Oregon statute forbidding state law enforcement coordination with Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
SOS stated that this policy “rendered Oregon a 'sanctuary'” and “gives illegal aliens yet another reason to settle in our state.”
The largest concern for SOS is the safety of Oregonians. It pointed to Bonifacio Oseguera-Gonzalez, an undocumented immigrant who had previously been deported six times. Osequera-Gonzales reportedly admitted to killing three people and injuring another in a shooting at a blueberry farm in June 2016.
Proponents of the measure will face the opposition group Oregonians United Against Profiling. It already launched a “Vote No on IP 22” campaign. Opponents fear that the measure “could open the door to racial profiling and families being torn apart, simply because someone is perceived to be an undocumented immigrant.”
The people of Oregon will get to decide the fate of their sanctuary policies in November.

Oregon has it's chance to either stay a state in the Union, or be one of lawlessness.
