The more I think about it the more I like it.

Any “new” conference needs seven schools together for eight years to be authorized as an big dance autobid conference by the NCAA. Take seven from the MAC and five CUSA schools.

Stop being wrong. The eight years part is right. But the eight years applies to the conference existing (and competing in the right number and balance of sports), not about schools together. Any group of schools, with or without history together, could start next year under the same rules, no autobids until (counts on fingers) 2028-29 I think.

Any name tied to the confederate states might go over well with some, but turn off others. I'm sure there are other regional names that can suffice, something pre revolution? The hupothetical Magonlia conference covers a similar region to what you propose, plays off , ivy league name yet points to the southern states. Perhaps play off the crape myrtle or something?

Umm, Kentucky and WV (especially the part where Marshall is) were in the Union.

I am aware but that is 2 out of the 14 and I was just trying to think of something that covers most schools. Wish I would of thought of magnolia, I like it better. I'm open to any suggestions though as mythical NCAA emperor for a day.

As a Marshall fan I wouldn't mind being in a conference with Ohio, Akron, Toledo, Western Michigan, and Northern Illinois.

I'd add Little Miami & Buffalo as a maybe.

Other than that I don't really want to be in a conference with the other MAC schools.

Call this the SWC - Southwest Conference. Rice is a former member and I read that the conference name is actually being held by Texas State (not sure how accurate that is).

N. Texas - LA Tech

Tulsa is having financial problems in the AAC. If it wants to join the SWC, come on board and let's find a travel partner.

I previously suggested UTEP - NMSU and was told UTEP would never allow that to happen. Too bad, as UTEP is an extreme outlier and needs a travel partner. Actually, UTEP and NMSU both belong in the MWC.

A trademark is abandoned if not used in commerce for three years. I doubt anyone "owns" the SWC trademark.

I recall reading that Texas St somehow got ownership of the name Southwest Conference.
