1. When USF started their football program they refused to play UCF.
2. UCF was considered the leader to join the Big East in the early 2000's because our football program was more established than USF. But in that timeframe UCF hadn't gotten really serious about football (much less basketball). USF was selected for the Big East basically because they had a decent basketball arena and some mild basketball success while UCF had the equivalent of a large high school basketball gym.
3. USF then thought they were "too good" to bother with playing "lowly" UCF and only agreed to play the Knights in a 4-game series to lower their CUSA buyout. With the advantage of the BCS tag, USF was able to beat UCF in those four games.
4. USF continued to denigrate UCF...thinking that they were going to develop a rivalry with the Miami Hurricanes instead. You can see that the trademark USF arrogance developed very early in their life.
5. UCF began to have football success, winning some CUSA championships. At the same time we started to notice how USF would start well, then tank at the end of the season, so we started trolling them about their late season meltdowns.
6. UCF built our on campus stadium, which USF mockingly calls an "erector set," which BTW is pretty much what all college stadiums started out as prior to the 1990's. UCF attendance surged while USF attendance started falling off.
6. While UCF continued to get better, USF was getting noticeably worse. At one time they were paying three head coaches in the same year...the current coach and two fired coaches. UCF continued trolling.
7. In our first year in the same conference, UCF went 11-1 and won the Fiesta Bowl. The trolling got stronger.
8. While UCF's attendance would fluctuate between 33,000 and 39,000 most games (except 2015), USF was getting embarrassed by announcing crowds of 25,000 - 35,000 even when only 18,000 - 24,000 were actually going through the turnstiles. Of course, we had to troll them about that.
9. After winning 3 of the first 5 AAC conference championships (one shared) and winning the Peach Bowl, a majority of USF fans still think they are "too good" to be associated with "lowly" UCF as is evidenced by the thread on The Bulls Pen where a majority are ready to jump off of a bridge at the horror of being stuck in the AAC. Meanwhile, their trophy case is still EMPTY.
