2018 Pick'em Contest
Welcome to the 2018 ACC Pickem. I am posting this on the College Sports and Conference Realignment Board, because, while it includes all ACC conference games, there are usually more games of national interest on the card every week, and entry in the contest is open to all.
Last year we had a late start, so some who might have played missed out on the fun. I learned a few lessons along the way, and so I have tweaked the rules just a bit this year. Here they are.
There will be 15 games each week of the regular season. Picks each week must be submitted by replying to the thread in this forum. Please do not PM me with your picks (a change from last year). Picks for weekday games must be in no later than 1 hour before the start time. All picks for weekend games must be made by 11AM ET on Saturday.
If you wish to change one or more picks before the deadline, please do so by a separate post to the thread. DO NOT edit your original post to make a change.
If a game is postponed, but played later in the same week, it will still count toward that week’s record. If it is cancelled or postponed to a later week, it will not be counted (but may be added to the card when it is eventually played if it is still one of the games of general interest).
Each week, rep points will be awarded as follows:
First place and ties will be awarded 3 points each.
Second place (no more than one player with more wins) gets 2 points.
Third place (not more than 2 players with more wins) gets 1 point.
There will be two separate season long contests. The player with the most correct picks after week 13 will receive 3 rep points and the adulation of the entire forum. His (or her) name will be engraved on the virtual trophy alongside previous yearly winners. The tie breaker for this contest will be the player with the most weekly wins.
The second contest winner will be the player who amassed the most rep points during the regular season. He will also receive 3 rep points. Tie break goes to the player with the most correct picks over the course of the season.
Last year, Buckminster Fuller was our (tiebreak) winner, with 122 wins, followed by CollegeCard (122), 4X4Hokies (121) and BigTexNole (115). Had there been a second contest for most rep points scored as described above, the winner would have been 4X4Hokies (19), followed by CollegeCard (16), Buckminster Fuller (15) and BigTexNole (13).
This second contest has been added so that a player with a single disastrous week, or a skipped week, is still in the running, and is encouraged not to drop out of the race.
The slate for Week 1 will be posted in a separate thread in a couple of weeks. I'd do it now, but I'm holding back in case there are any 11th hour coach dismissals (though Ohio State is not now on my tentative list).
Good luck, and good pickin’.
