Preseason BPI has WVU at #4 and UC at #33 in MBB. XU nowhere to be found.
Coaches matter.
Always interesting to see when someone seems to completely miss the point of a post and is responding to something he thinks people are talking about in his own head.

Doubt he missed the point. More likely just trolling to get a rise out of people.

This hurts from a depth standpoint but at least it isn't season ending...
Quote:Josh Whyle is injured and will miss several weeks, but the former La Salle High School standout should be able to play some football for the University of Cincinnati this season.
UC coach Luke Fickell, speaking after a night practice here Thursday at Camp Higher Ground, said that Whyle will undergo surgery for a clavicle (collarbone) injury suffered this week. Fickell said that Whyle will miss 4-to-6 weeks, but the coach is optimistic about recovery time. Whyle attended practice Thursday in street clothes, with his left arm in a sling.
"He'll still play this year," Fickell said.
True freshman Whyle is a tight end, listed at 6-foot-6 and 238 pounds on UC's preseason camp roster. Whyle was rated a three-star recruit by 247Sports.com and the No. 3 prospect among UC's highly-regarded 2018 recruiting class.
Whyle was named Ohio Division II first-team all-state and Greater Catholic League South first team last season, with 40 catches for 546 yards and six touchdowns. Whyle had more than 30 major college offers. Those included Auburn, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, Tennessee and Wisconsin.
Whyle was ranked No. 19 nationally at his position by 247Sports last season, and also the No. 14 overall player in Ohio.
Whyle was not projected to be a starter entering the season, but he was taking occasional reps with the No. 1 offensive unit during practice. Whyle had two receptions in an intrasquad scrimmage last Saturday.

Chad continues great coverage of our Cats. Man, if our OL can be solid this year and remain healthy what a bonus that would be. BTW, anyone know much about Metz (6'9" 303 lb) frosh from Germany?

About the only one on this board who ***should*** be interested in this is me... And that's because I live in Morgantown.

Yeah with the new rules (at least as I recall and understand them) we could get him back and play him in our final 4 games while still counting this a redshirt year which wouldn't be too bad of a deal at all for him and for UC.

I think there was an interview with him earlier in the year where he said he would be redshirting. I doubt he is used to the speed of the game at this level, and I imagine a redshirt year will do him a lot of good.

Makes sense. I can only imagine the wingspan on this guy. Sounds like potential at one of the tackle spots.

Between Metz (6'9 303) and Harper (6'7 325) we could have some serious size on the O-Line.

Reminds me of when we had Hooey and Lefeld as the anchors....that was a great O-Line as well.

Size is amazing but aren't both likely to be major development projects or they would have been scooped up by a P5 program? If UC is a development focused program on the offensive and defensive lines, so be it. I'm just eager to see one of these guys on the field.

I think pretty much every G5 team has to be development in the trenches outside of the lucky snag of a freshman starter like Houston got with Oliver.

Metz will be a development project, but I recall hearing a lot of positives about Harper in a Coach Crook interview. He had offers to P5 programs and chose to pursue basketball. A guy with that size and has the footwork of a basketball player can only help him. I don't know if he can redshirt or not, but Crook said the biggest challenge for him was getting used to the speed of football again, and putting on football weight. I doubt he will be as big of a project as some may think.
Colin Woodside is 6'5 and up to 305 as a freshman. Seems we have brought in a lot more size than we have in the past. Not as many TE/DE who switch to OL. Corey Cunningham was around 260lbs when he came to UC and is listed at 305 by the Cardinals. Deyshaun Bond is 6'1 sub 300lbs.
I understand that size and weight don't equate to talent, but it is nice getting in some guys who are already big.

I don't consider Whyle's injury - assuming of course he heals properly - a major deal. He wasn't cracking the 2 deep. If the RS rules hadn't changed I suspect he coulda been held out this year anyway. As is, he'll get in at some point this year. Wasn't likely to be a difference maker this year either way.

I imagine having a coach that used to play on the line has to help in recruiting.
