Heart of Dallas bowl
should AAC take control of Dallas game
300,000 seems pretty cheap to me.
AAC #4 vs B-12#7 with 1st choice of C-USA west as backup
last yrs game would have been SMU vs Tex T, No Tex as back up
this yrs projection is Hous vs Kansas St, No Tex as backup

with Birmingham [vs SEC] & Milatary [vs ACC]
Detriot [vs B-10], 1st pick from MAC as backup.
this game has been disaster for ACC

HoD having difficulties: https://www.dallasnews.com/news/dallas-c...otton-bowl

Dallas city council voted down a $300k subsidy to the bowl.

Quote:Monica Paul, executive director of the Dallas Sports Commission, said she has been talking with ESPN about getting better teams in the future — which would mean higher attendance and better ratings. But she said in an interview she's concerned that if the council votes against the incentive, ESPN will simply take the game elsewhere — like Austin, which wants a bowl game.

You talking Frisco? Any idea whether it will end up being a decent opponent? Not that B12 #7 is great, but beats Rice (sorry Rice).

That’s the basis of the thread. Should the AAC contribute the $300K a year to save it in exchange for providing the opponent every year for the B12 in the bowl.

Bowl contracts are way more messy this time.

The NCAA rule changes are making everyone carefully review their options.

Honestly with a conference tie-in (the Frisco is technically at large right now) it might be wise to drop Frisco and pick up HOD. The crowd support for a western team and a big 12 opponent should be solid.

Not sure who has the better image right now though, a collapsing bowl, or one that just moved and is held in a soccer stadium.

The Frisco Bowl is a joke with a $200K payout--which is the lowest payout of any FBS bowl. Its ok for the bottom bowl in our line up--but I'd trade it for the NOLA Bowl in a second. If the Heart of Dallas maintains it B12 tie---thats a very attractive bowl for the AAC West.

If Dallas doesn't contribute, this bowl will likely move to another location. Like maybe Austin. Is that not the case?

Texas and Oklahoma play there in the fall during the State Fair. The weather is a lot nicer and there are tons of people spending tons of money. Dallas doesn't have to front money to ESPN to get a bowl then. People show up and spend money in Dallas then. It's not like winter when the weather is cold with possible freezing rain and / or snow.

No - the AAC backed the Miami Bowl and it flopped. Go to bowls where you can make money or at least try to break even. If this bowl disappears line up another bowl where you don't have to pay to play with the B-12 because they will have an opening too. 04-cheers

Heck no.

Its stupid to play a bowl game in the 92,000 seat Cotton Bowl in usually cold weather involving just barely bowl eligible teams.

No one is dying to say: "hey, lets go to Dallas and freeze our butt off to watch our 6-6 team play in an empty 92,000 seat stadium".

Photos from last year's bowl game between the Pac 12 (Utah) and the Big 12 (WVU):
ANNOUNCED Crowd was 20,507 but actual crowd was only about 1/4 that size

I enjoyed the bowl in 2012 where Keenum and Co. whipped up on a scandal plagued Penn State in front of 46,817.

Barring North Texas, the highest attended games had OSU, Houston, and Texas Tech. Regional vs. Big 10.

Cotton Bowl has been renovated fairly well.

AAC should have grabbed the NOLA bowl last time and definitely should next go 'round. Either keep the sunbelt or get a P6 match (SEC would be ideal). Move it back to the Saturday night before Christmas, like it always has been.
