This has been in the works for a while to cover the title IX requirements. We were also supposed to get softball but we don't seem to have the land for it - that made me super sad.

We already have plenty of gym space and the volleyball team will be using the old field house as their game and practice spot.

Softball was a downer. My nieces were HUGE fans of that news when it came out. There's a pretty darn big softball following in HR.

Could they use an existing field at least for the first few years? I mean, you don't want to go off-campus for a niche sport if you can help it, but is there anything in Norfolk or Virginia Beach that would do as a temporary home? Or would it always be too much of a hurdle to get an on-campus or even off-campus purpose-built ODU stadium?

Just a thought, but aren't there like hundreds of softball fields at high schools, churches and county rec fields near ODU that you could use?
