Bowl Agreement Announcements
I would have thought this summer would have brought announcements on the next round of bowl agreements. Don't most of them end this year?

Most have two more seasons to run, i.e., the current agreements run through the fall 2019 football season.

The current bowl deals extend through next season. Six years (2014-2015 season through the end of the 2019-2020 season). I would have thought we would have heard something as well---but that was primarily because sources quoted in articles had said that once the NCAA announced the number of bowl agreements each conference could be tied to----it would be "hot and heavy" for bowl signings. In fact, one article I read said they expected all the bowls to have their deals wrapped up and announced by the end of summer. Instead---its largely been crickets. There were a few renewal deals announced by the CFP--but beyond that---nothing.

The lack of official announcements on bowls I believe is a good thing for those who hold hope of better arrangements.

Perhaps. Just looking around, the Belk Bowl announced its partnership with the AAC for the current 2014-2019 cycle in July of 2013. The Texas Bowl announced its new 2014-2019 ties in August of 2013. The Big 12 announced their completed new 2014-2019 bowl line up in August of 2013.
That time period would represent the summer prior to the LAST season of the then current bowl cycle. So, in other words, that would correspond to next summer---not this summer. Perhaps it was unreasonable for the experts to expect this to be a done deal so early. The time period suggested would be almost a year earlier than the last bowl cycle announcements. Frankly, thats when I actually expected it to occur. I mention that because I was hoping the AAC might be able to use the negotiations on their new TV rights agreement as an opportunity to work in a nice bowl slot for their champion. Obviously, only NBC or ESPN would really be the only two networks that might swing a big enough sword to perhaps make that happen.

Bowls (and conferences to some degree) don't want to announce any CHANGE any sooner than they have to because they don't like the lame duck situations. Let's say you run the Waffle House Delicious Pecan Waffle Bowl in Pensacola pitting down the standings AAC vs MAC and two years are left and one of those leagues is going to be short a team and the bowl they short is going to get a 5-7 MWC with a great APR and an unhappy fan base, The league short a team if it knows it is being cut out is going to pick your bowl to short.
On the flip side, let's say the Waffle House Delicious Pecan Waffle Bowl is tied to CUSA and MAC and has a chance to work a swap to pit an 11-2 Western Kentucky from CUSA and a 10-3 Arkansas State from Sun Belt to get a game that ESPN wants to promote hard but MAC knows that they are getting dumped and the potential game to be swapped to isn't a game that is interested in having a relationship with the MAC so they don't want to cooperate in the swap and while that's dragging on the Huddle House Adequate Waffle Bowl in Fort Myers gets the WKU-AState game worked out.

RE: Bowl Agreement Announcements
We also moved to a new CFP post season format in 2012 for the upcoming 2014 season so there wasn't as much time as usual to get the bowl tie-ins done.
The B1G refusing to supply a high tier pick to get the Chicago bowl going so far is signally more than likely the status quo.
CUSA I could possibly see having some new ideas for the MAC/SBC bowl games.

There will be some changes. Notably the Las Vegas Bowl.

RE: Bowl Agreement Announcements
Among all of the great competitions in the sporting world, nothing compares to playing for all the Cheez-Its on the day after Christmas in a baseball park in downtown Phoenix.

Beef was (maybe still is?) a Tampa-area bar type joint that featured chicken wings more than anything else. When i was at USF some 25 years ago there was a Beef across from the campus and I'd hit them up on Mondays or Tuesdays for their $10 all you could eat wings deal.
They franchised a bit, don't know where they stand now.

The Cheez-It Bowl really makes me pine for more traditional bowls like the Poulan Weedeater Independence Bowl, or the Con Agra Hawaii Bowl.
